I nearly forget Oz still did the Viva.

The new Vauxhall Viva/Opel Karl is quite different,

not sure if it’s an improvement or not over the Lacetti/Viva.

I think Oz is keeping the Viva name for Holden.

We got those as the Deawoo Lacetti, in the last year of Deawoo uin this market. It became a Chevrolet Lacetti afterwards.

They weren’t liked. At all. Besides poor sales journalists didn’t like them either. I just looked up a review of a diesel version. The only thing they liked was the (Italian) diesel engine. Poor interior build quality, bad seats, bad suspension, bad steering, generic looks. A subpar car, one of many that tainted the Chevrolet name.

1.6L of throbbing power (only engine offered here in Oz)

we have a Viva wagon at work used as a courtesy car/work hack

don’t see many of them now, no loss tbh.

we had them in Australia in 2003 as a Daewoo. for one year before Daewoo left the Australian market.

We got these as the Suzuki Reno and Forenza for the 5 door and sedan. Both were quite terrible.

Probably for the best. The Viva name is already tainted with the Lacetti/Viva.

I can’t remember which way round it was. I think it was when Chevy took over from Daewoo.

Chevy promised anyone who was holding out buying a Daewoo in the last year, that if they did buy one, they’d get a new Chevy when Daewoo ceased.

I think I like the Spark’s hidden rear door handles better, even if it’s kind of a design gimmick.

The quality seems improved from the last generation, but I’d need to drive it. The last one was really slow.

The Viva looks like an updated Vauxhall Agila.

It’s so tall! Or at least it looks tall.

For the last several years Suzuki didn’t send us anything smaller than the Esteem/Baleno-Aerio/Liana-SX4, so we never got the Splash/Agila. Hell, we never even got the new Swifts. And GM stopped rebadging Suzukis for sale as GM brands in the US after the last Metro and Tracker died. Frankly, I’m surprised we’ve gotten the Spark at all.

Ye’, they were quite short, narrow and tall. Not all that attractive but practical around little cities. However going from city to city on A roads or motorways was done rather slowly and with clenched buttocks during side winds.

I wonder what cars would still be around if they just sold them as one make and model rather than having numerous companies making them under licence here and there, rebadging to be sold in certain markets and not having several different model names like the:-

First Gen, Isuzu Trooper.
