I bought paint and supplies, I was all geared up to paint my wheels black this weekend...then I found this picture on the internet.
Mine has bigger tires and isn’t lifted, but I don’t like the black with that paint scheme (which is, of course, my paint scheme) AT ALL.
Now he also seems to have the centers painted flat black and the lugs are black (I’ve got nice chrome locking lugs for it), so it looks kinda junky. If I paint them silver and don’t like it I could always go darker, but it would be a pain in the ass if I go with black and don’t like it.
What do you guys think? My wheels look way worse in person than in pictures, the polished spokes are okay but the pockets are gross. I think black would look good without the center caps and with chrome lugs, but I don’t want to go there unless I’m more sure of it. Can somebody do a quick and dirty job on that second picture, of my actual truck, and blacken the wheels?
Maybe I’ll just go silver, repaint the hubs so they’re nice and black while I’ve got the wheels off.

I considered bronze, because I love how it looks on some other 80s, but I feel like I’d have too many colors. Bronze wheels, champagne paint, gray trim, slightly different gray bumpers, black running boards. I’m going to remove the running boards though, so that’s one less.

Sorry, I’m no help with Photoshop but I think this shade of glossy gunmetal Gray will really compliment your colour scheme.
It would continue the gradient your two-tone theme has started.

Yeah we’re on the same page. Darker than the cladding but not black.
I think something that compliments your grays would work much better that the stark contrast of solid black (which would work nice if your truck was a solid dark grey or white).

Plastidip gunmetal topcoat over matte black. Glossy and not black when it’s done. There is also a titanium topcoat out now too. That would look nice as well. Here’s my wheels off my old S4. Gunmetal topcoat over matte black base.

Your white letter tires improve the look, but I’d repaint them silver or similar; that’s just based off of personal preference.

I ended up going with black plastidip, looks pretty good. My problem with silver was that I’ve already got two different grays on the truck, so I wanted to contrast completely instead of getting too close to one of the shades already on it.

Aftermarket visual improvements in the form of wheels may be subjective, but the OEM wheels on the 93-97 Land Cruiser are incredibly stout and sturdy. Most opt to keep them because they’re so durable.
Less common with some other alloy wheel styles which may/may not be as beefy.
