But Not The Mazdas. This got traded in here yesterday, VERY VERY clean NA. Not sure what they have in it or what they’re asking, but I’m sure it’ll go quick.
126k but unmolested, all original, ZERO rust, just needs a new rear window and some seat bolster repair. Oh, and a cam sensor seal if you don’t like oil leaks.
Paint could use a buff, too.
And we’re not talking about the wheel covers, or the red-painted steelies they’re covering.
They took it in for MUCH less than what its worth. Like.... less than $2k.
I’m thinking of buying it to flip it if no one else is interested... but it has some throw out bearing noise now that its been test driven a little more.

Better find out what they have in it! What will they do with it? Sell it to an employee or send it to auction? Doesn’t seem like the type of car (as nice as it is) that most dealers would keep.

Looks like the later 1.8L NA judging by the interior. Sadly it’s a base model so little to no chance of a Torsen. I’m surprised that Classic Red paint hasn’t faded pink, that’s a good indication that it received some love under its previous owner!

A stripper package NA with 126k, steelies, bad wheel covers, the wrong sized tires and a trashed top? If the A/C works, then 2k is about what is worth. If the timing belt is fresh, the oil leaks fixed, good seat, the shifter boots in good shape good and a new top, it is a 3-4K car all day long. Miatas are a dime a dozen, and cheap. If it has never been crashed, that does look like it would be a good starting point for a racecar.

The tops’ not bad, just needs a new window zipped in. They’re a dime a dozen in some places, and in various states of modification. But about here it’d probably command $3k as is.

Wow, that baffles me that someone would pay 3k for that car.If it really was straight, had a toresn in the rear (which seems unlikely given this car’s equipment) and the A/C worked, I might offer 2k for it, but that feels a lot more like a $1500 car at the most.
The window is actually heat sealed into the top on a miata. Sure, you can have a new plastic window sown in, but it is a hack repair. I learned to wrench professionally from a guy who owned a miata shop. The problem you run into trying to replace just the zippered portion of an OEM top is that you have to mess with the rain rail to do so. Any NA or NB still around is old enough now that the rain rail is brittle and going to crack the second you start messing with it. The only way to get the top to seal right via that method is to put in a new rain rail while you’re there, and that is a terrible, terrible job. Taking the top off the car, drilling out the rivets on the rain rail, lining it all up again to attach a new rain rail takes as much labor as just replacing the entire top with a new one (and only a fool would buy a new top without the rain rail already attached from the robbins factory). The old zip in a new center panel repair and attach it to the original rain rail worked a lot better in 1998 than it does now. Back then, it was still labor intensive, but only having to mess with the rivets on the center (zippered portion of the top) was less of a pain in the ass then doing the entire thing, and there was a chance the rain rail might still be pliable enough to not crack it in the process. Now it usually leads to miata with wet carpets and water in trunk every time it rains, or it leads to spending as much as a top replacement and still having a mostly old top. The right way to fix it is to fork over the $700-$1000 (depending on how you fell about 1 piece vs. 3 piece, glass and defrosted or not) for the new top and installation that will last a decade.
