First is Steve Bannon’s removal from the National Security Council’s principals committee. Second is Devin Nunes recusing himself from the Russia probe. Third is President Trump’s response to the gassing of civilians in northern Syria, where the world discovered that just maybe , the president has a heart.

Sorry, no photo. Kinja is being stupid...

Meh, I’m not expecting anything to drastically change unless an independent commission is assigned because the Republicans will just keep putting sycophants and obstructionists inside the investigation. The new dude who took over from Nunes has been a hardcore Trump supporter going way back and is known for gems like this :

“Harry Reid and the Democrats brought in Mexican soap opera stars, singers and entertainers who had immense influence in those communities into Las Vegas, to entertain, get out the vote and so forth,” Conaway told The Dallas Morning News this week. “Those are foreign actors, foreign people, influencing the vote in Nevada. You don’t hear the Democrats screaming and saying one word about that.”

I thinking that any day now, with all the revelations and leaks and evidence, the Republican party will grow a spine and act in the best interest of the country instead of getting bogged down in bipartisan pissing contests and whataboutisms to keep hold of their power but that remains to be seen.

I hadn’t heard about Nunes. The guy is so far in the tank for Trump. I think he ran to the WH last week because he found out that they had recordings of him talking to the Russians. We shall see.

It will be interesting to see how the Russians react to the gas attack. I heard some analysis yesterday that Assad is trying to find out just how much he can get away with. He’ll find out. He pulled this during the Obama administration, and Obama was weighing military action in response but chose instead to try a political solution in consort with Russia.

I also like how the WH said that Bannon was on the NSC to help Flynn. Right. Bannon got kicked off because the new director wanted him gone. It’s not like he won’t be talking to Trump any more. He’ll still know everything that the NSC knows.

Not sure I agree on the Syria point unless there’s been more talk from the president than what I’ve seen. The gist of his comments seemed to be “this is horrible, inexcusable. Obama messed this up. But we won’t get involved unless there is any direct foreseeable benefit to us”. Especially interesting how he blames Obama for having not taking any military action in the past (which even Trump back then supported, btw, and at least that decision was more thought out with hopes of putting more political and economic pressure instead) and the very next breath – oh wait, his position is to do absolutely nothing too!

This was pretty disheartening to me – especially given Assad’s relationship with Russia and Trump seemingly putting no pressure on that even, given his affinity for and excellent relationship with them. This is also a bad precedent to show that America’s policy going forward will be that we won’t get involved in foreign affairs unless it DIRECTLY affects us. All these people being left to fend for themselves in the wasteland that is now Syria, or Iraq, Libya, or wherever any future events take place are prime targets for radicalization – pretty easy to point at the US and say look at how they came in, meddled with our business, destabilized the entire region (I’m not talking last year or anything – this goes back decades) and now they’re leaving you to die. That SHOULD be a major concern for a president who claims to have a top priority of defeating ISIS. It’s futile to think that we can just quit cold turkey and leave all these places to turn in to whatever it becomes after all the political meddling we’ve done to get our way over the decades. It may sound good to supporters during Trump’s tenure, however long that may be, but long term it will be disastrous.

But positively on the Syria topic, I was glad to See Nikki Haley taking a tough stand on it at the UN Security Council, that she will push as far as possible given the avenues available to her for justice and safety for innocent civilians, and also pressuring the Russian counterparts in the SC to support joint efforts for investigations and action.

Don’t you see all of this is a distraction! The lizard people are taking over and no one is talking about it.

Syria: cruise missile attack.

Russians: Code Brown.

Bannon: McMaster made it a term of agreeing to take the job.

I can’t disagree with any of what you have written here; not a word. If I were POTUS, I’d be looking at cruise missiles and destroy, say, all of Syria’s aerial refueling tankers, assuming they have any. Or their aircraft fuel, or the aircraft that dropped the Sarin. Crater some runways, maybe. For sure, though, if Trump does nothing, he’ll look like a wimp.

Definitely cruise. No way we’re putting pilots over Syrian AA sites.

Maybe.

Good for him.

I think the health care debacle is playing out in the administration with talks of bannon preibus at odds, preibus (rumors of stepping down), bannon now off NSC, and seen in the elevation of kushner and ivanka as the only one he trusts.

I’d prefer Kushner or Ivanka over Bannon/Preibus. As much as I dislike Donald J. Trump, I can’t blame the guy for wanting to have family in there with him. None of my family would do it, but that would be my first choice. It’s grueling work.

i’ll take family corruption over an ideologue with a dystopian worldview.
