No, no this is a new FA20 WRX, these engines don’t so much blow head gaskets and ringlands. They’re more into breaking connecting rods and air conditioning the block in the process... much improved

I’m overdue for changing the plugs and almost due for changing some fluids.
Oil changes, air filters, brakes, and tires so far. Debating replacing the struts/shocks soon. I feel like they’re starting to wear.
The only quirk that comes to mind is I’m still on the original front pads but have changed the rear pads twice. The first two sets were Mazda oem. The third set I did myself and used the top brake pad (duralast gold?) from autozone. I’m rotating my tires today so I’ll be able to check to see how they’ve held up vs Mazda’s pads.
My main complaint when I got the car was how relatively small the glovebox is. My fiancée has a 2012 Mazda3 and the glovebox is massive. The Corolla I had before had a pretty big one too. I keep stuff I need for work in there and I had to do some reorganizing and adjust. The center console is smaller compared to the Corolla as well. The infotainment is a little slow to start up sometimes.
Gas mileage is great. When I had the eco tires on that came with the car I had to work the car to get below the mpg rating. With normal tires it’s more in line with the mpg rating. It’s a NA 2.0 so you won’t be blowing the doors off anything but it’s more than enough torque and power for my needs. Having a manual means I can really work the engine for fun or mileage.

Wow! thanks for the write up. Aside from the real brake pads (handbrake turns much? lol) this is pretty much what I expected to hear.
Now, one more question, I don’t know what trim level you have, but are there any options, that looking back, you think really would’ve been worth it? Did you test drive the 2.5, and looking back is the 2.5 worth it?

Mine is the touring (mid trim) in manual. 2.0. I didn’t test drive the 2.5. At the time the manual 2.5 hadn’t been released and I really wanted a manual. Also, price and mpg. I was trying to stay around $20k and because I drive so much even a few mpg adds up over time.
Basically all the things I paid extra for to get the touring trim over sport (infotainment, back up camera, and a few other things) are standard on the sport trim now. Back up camera is almost an absolute must with how thing the rear pillars are and blind spot monitoring is a big help. I think they’re standard on all 3's now but I could be wrong.
Are you looking at new or used?

Used probably. And it’ll probably be an auto. I like the idea of the Grand Touring because I’m a sucker for HID headlights (even though I didn’t spring for the upgraded headlights on my own car) and also the 2.5 since it’ll be an auto and it can use the extra grunt.
BUT from what I’ve heard, the 2.5 may not really be worth it, and my fiancee hates leather (especially because Houston summers turn leather seats into skillets.) So we’ll probably go used sport. We’ll just have to see when we get to test driving.
It also depends on how good the new Impreza Sport is. I love the idea of having 2 Subarus, but she’s partial to the Mazda3.

Haha positive side is you have someone to play chicken with. Negative side is you have someone to play chicken with and might end up without gas.
Mine freaks out when there’s 1/4 tank left.
