Me Schaefft and 4muddyfeet got talking about japanese imports, which reignited my kei car wants again. It turns out that getting one here isn’t that expensive either. This slightly rough but complete and running one works out around £2600 shipped.

It’s almost certain the E36 is getting sold when the insurance runs out. It’s just not good enough to justify what it’s costing me to run. Now a JDM turbo kei car... that would be worth the cost to me.

Hmm, there’s a little JDM car for sale near me (outside of Chicago), that looks just like that thing. I’m not a JDM guy, so I had no idea what it was. Looked pretty neat though—

It would have to be a second car I think. But research tells me it’s cheaper to tax and insure than the bmw. Plus it’s better on fuel. I wouldnt want to DD it for several reasons. Mostly I dont think it’ll handle motorway speeds well enough.

There are a couple other similar looking kei cars, the Daihatsu Mira of MCM fame is somewhat similar looking for example.

This one also has an off center hood scoop, too. Clearly a performance model of some sort, or at least impersonating one.

I’d love to own a turbo kei car - they just look so much fun! £2600 seems reasonable compared to the only other one I could find, but still seems a tad much. surely there are similar alternatives?
EDIT - For £1000, this doesn’t seem too bad. Pretty orough, but far cheaper than going for the importing route. MCM factor means I prefer Miras too :P

Na probably not. This is the appeal of imports, most of them have lived a better life than cars that have spent time in the UK.
