Jesus H Christ this thing has no clutch or shifter feel at all. It might as well be shift-by-wire because you have no clue if what you’re doing is actually having an effect on the car. There’s not even a notch when the gear slots in. I’d rather have the automatic one that I rented once because at least then you get what you expect.

Yup when I worked at a dealership I test drove one, and it made me very thankful for the 97 Accord I had at the time and it’s amazing shifter.

Also on top of giving zero feed back that knob is made of the cheapest feeling plastic I’ve ever touched. Shifters should be should be soft plastic, or least wrapped in leather. Or of course made of wood,

I tend to agree. The Renegade has the same 1.4T/6M and it’s at least a little notchy. They hydraulic clutch is hard to gauge - I’ve been driving manual cars since 1997 but I have stalled the Jeep at least a dozen times in the year we’ve owned it. Before then I was used to driving a Kia (with the Mitsu 6m) and a VW (with a 5-speed that may as well have had a shifter made of old rubber bands)

It’s not a terrible car by any means, it’s just not as good as it could have been.

At least a shifter can be replaced with an aftermarket one.

But I’m picky, I haven’t felt a stock shifter that I enjoyed ever. (Well, maybe the FRS was pretty good).

It’s not the shifter, it’s all the stuff between the shifter and the trans. The linkages that a fwd car needs tend to dull the feeling of the shifter.

The most rewarding shifter I’ve ever used was actually on a Wrangler of all vehicles. The shifter goes through the floor and straight into the trans. When you move it it’s acting directly on the shift forks.

That’s pretty much all I have.

Those can be changed too. I put poly bushings in the shift linkages of my Subaru Legacy GT, and it made a ton of difference.

Still not as sharp as a shifter that goes directly into the gearbox, but still a massive improvement.

My shifter is due for a rebuild but that’s nigh impossible without dropping the trans so I’m stuck with it for now.

I had a super low mileage 2013 Dart GT 6-speed for one calendar year. After the clutch and throw out bearing was replaced at 10k miles it was significantly easier to shift, But still at the end of my year with it smooth shifts were all but impossible. I traded the car in with 25k

There were even times where shifting from 2 to 1 under 7mph would be met with a terrible grinding, even with the clutch pressed all the way into the floor. It made almost stop-and-go traffic a nightmare. It’s literally the worst manual transmission I have ever driven. The shifter had no feel, the clutch seemed to have ever-changing engagement points in its travel.

Add to that the 2.4L Multi-Air’s incredibly slow revving nature and that it sounds like a small diesel engine at idle made for a terrible ownership experience. It’s what finally pushed me to buy a Camry and just be done with it.

I’ll never consider an FCA product with that engine, and the only thing that keeps me from writing FCA off entirely is that our 2014 Wrangler Rubicon has been perfect so far with 60k miles on the clock.

I don’t mind the shifter feel, but I agree on the clutch. There is no feel and the engagement point is very vague. I got in one day and depressed the clutch and thought I had an issue since there was no feel to it.
