Kinja'd!!!

I swear, I am seeing C43's everywhere I look now. Today I came across more of them than I did C300's. I imagine it’s a relatively easy upsell at the dealership too - “want something quicker, want to stand out more, want to make a bigger statement?”

“well, I would never buy a luxury car with less than six cylinders!” - the owners probably

This is one of the most brilliant sales tactics I’ve seen from a car manufacturer in a long time. There are already a fuck-ton of their cars aimed at certain people on the road being driven by people who just want to say they drive a MB. Now they’ve drawn in a crowd who still have just enough money to pay a little more for the status symbol of having an AMG (without having a true AMG). Fucking brilliant.

So does this have an actual AMG engine (H A N D B U I L T or something), or is this the start of that thing everyone was mad about with the AMG badging and packaging on non-AMG powered models?

The second one, unfortunately.

It is, but I’d feel a little dirty driving one.

According to Wikipedia:

All AMG engines - with the exception of the “43" M276 3.0 L V6 Bi-Turbo engine - are hand built using a “one man, one engine” philosophy at the current AMG plant in Affalterbach, Germany

Still decently fast cars though. I wouldn’t turn one down.

You shouldn’t, it’s the only way to get a 6 cylinder engine instead of a turbo 4 in almost every MB model.

Think BMW M Sport but with an engine upgrade over the standard model instead of suspension only.

Yes, and with MB/BMW/Audi, the 6 is the one I want in the small/mid-sized segment. It’s just the AMG badge that turns me off. I’d take an E43 and remove all of the AMG badging, then I’d be happy—

They are so dumb they should have kept the “AMG Sport” moniker for these baby AMGs.

I can’t say I’d turn one down, but I would have real reservations about it.

Yeah, I think I’m numb to that now, with the M Sport, S line, R line, F sport garbage everyone else is doing.

Hell, I daily an F sport, so who am I to judge?
