If a “slightly used” (maybe not!) car was sold from the dealership with a Cobb Stage II tune, I wonder if the dealership no longer honors the warranty before it’s sold? I saw this while WRX hunting and raised an eyebrow upon seeing the Stage II tune in the description.
Does it come with a warranty while having the tune or no? Anyone?

I believe this might be up to the dealer. Friend of mine bought a CPO VW, local dealer said no to any mods like tune/intake, one dealer a bit further away didn’t care.

I test drove a stage II 2013 WRX hatch that was a trade-in at the local Chevy dealer. I asked them to have the local Subaru dealer check it out and verify that the warranty would be honored. The answer was a clear NO.
I ended up buying my WRX brand new. I was talking to a tech at the first service and mentioned the 2013. The tech said it was a good thing I didn’t buy it. The poor little WRX had been ridden hard and put away wet. They were surprised that anyone had taken it in on trade. He didn’t say what they knew about it, but made it clear that it wasn’t a good buy.

And it would be voided by the tune, as far as I can see. Certainly you’d want to pin the down the dealer on whether they would cover repairs.

You are missing my point. Subaru is not going to cover any repairs on this car (at least where failures are likely to be related to the tune). So the question is will the dealer warranty the car themselves for things Subaru won’t?
I think the answer is probably not, but the dealer does always have that option.

The dealer is free to warranty whatever the hell they want. They probably won’t, but it’s up to them. There’s no reason they can’t. There’s plenty of reasons they might not, including not wanting to risk getting stuck with a big repair, and simply not having procedures in place, since it’s not a thing they normally do. But it’s important information to get since it makes a significant difference in the value of the car (which is also a reason they might choose to warranty it).
