I have a 2006 version of that car. I love it, can’t go wrong with a Mazda 3.

MK5 Jetta, or Golf. probably won’t get a GTI/GLI in that price but the 2.5 5 cylinder is a great motor and it’s lots of fun, but also comfortable.

I like the jetta. But how long will it last before a major repair (assuming proper preventative maintenance)?

I’m 100% sure there has to be someone who has been injured when a rusty pipe burst.

Honda Fit! Seriously they are pretty much the perfect first car - reliable, easy on gas, handle well but too little power to get into trouble, and very versatile. I still miss mine. You can probably get into a second generation MT with right around 100k miles for $6k or so. The only manual listed on the Tulsa CL was actually an automatic, but if you’re willing to spend the day driving over to OKC then down IH35 here’s a great looking 2009 in ATX for $54oo

mk5s are actually pretty well put together. I’d say it would break down less than the Mazda, but be more expensive when it does.

How often doesn’t it need to sit four? because 7th...6th? Yeah 7Gen Accords are prettt cheap. You can find plenty of EX V6 manual coupes, and there are a few EX V6 manual sedans out there. Honda reliablility, V6 torque and lower insurance rates than a Civic, Golf, other typical “kid car”

Manual, 2.3L, purple, sunroof, 07+. It’s perfect, buy it.

I love my 06 MZ3, but I wish I had known to hold out for an 07+ when I bought it as everything older than that has rust problems.

Honestly, if one comes up, a P1 Vo is the way to go. All the ones I pictured are on sale in my area, stick shift, under $5K. Basically a luxurious and safe Mazda 3, albeit with a bit of a dumpy manual according to people who’ve owned one. Mine is an auto wagon, but it’s lovely so there’s no reason a row-your-own sedan wouldn’t be just as nice.

Less than the Mazda? Maybe if the Mazda was a Speed or a V6 MZ6. No way is that Jetta more reliable than a 2.3L MZ3 though.

To be clear we, in tulsa, have snow maybe at most, 5 days of the year. Road Salt is used about 2 of those days.

Kinja'd!!! "for Michigan" (formichigan)
04/04/2017 at 22:57, STARS: 2

Proteges don’t need salt. If you stuck one in a hermetically sealed garage, you’d still find a pile of rust when you opened it 10 years later.

Obviously that’s an exaggeration, but I would still avoid any Mazda older than 07, even in places where rust isn’t usually an issue.

Mazda Protégés and 3s do rust more than 626s and 6s, probably because they were cheaper when new, and that’s where Mazda cut costs.
