that the Buick Regal wagon is supposed to be revealed tonight. For those not in the know, it’s basically just the Opel Insignia wagon with a Buick grill. The new Regal is a bit larger and lighter than the outgoing model, and it sounds like you will only be able to get it in a “hatchback” or wagon here in the States. Hopefully they will have a GS version of the wagon, which is rumored to have the V6 in it. Giggity.

Well without getting into too much detail, with the PSA sale this car is going to be an Orphan, that’s its first knock. The second knock is my experience with GM Europe engineers not knowing their ass from a hole in the ground. Third is that this is under powered.
I’ll update my list after the reveal.

I hear you. The PSA sale is worrisome, but I hadn’t really heard about sub-par engineering out of Opel.
Hopefully they do offer the high feature V6 to take care of the power issue. If you need more than 325HP in a family hauler, this probably isn’t the car for you (what is, though?).

I think the styling is great, but the powertrain options are trash, along with the underpinnings.

Do any of the other Epsilon 2 vehicles have a V6 other than the Buick LaCrosse? Why would Buick Cannibalize their market?

I think they are doing it so that the Holden Commodore has more street cred. Going from a RWD V8 to FWD I4? Nah, they have to offer the V6.
Now sit in the Buick development meetings. The last GS was basically an appearance package and no one took it seriously. The cheap option is to just bring over the V6 variant that they are making for the Commodore anyway. It will be a sporty model with Recaro seats, the V6, and better suspension and brakes. LaCrosse buyers aren’t interested in any of that, they just want comfort, but with passing power.

Holden is still a $100M+/year profit generator for GM. They’re not a cash loser like Opel so they are still relevant, although not nearly as much as they used to be.

They are not relevant, every GM Holden will be a re-badged vehicle out of China now. Don’t expect anything fun or exciting for the Aussies or Kiwis.

Why wouldn’t we expect the GS version? Several leaked sources have stongly suggested we’ll get it, and so far everything those sources have said has been true (i.e. wagon, liftback version).
