Kinja'd!!!

Do any of you switch out phones during the day? I dont like to carrying around tablet-sized phones and all the accessories that come with them. I happen to have one of my older phones and really like walking around with something cheap and switching the SIM card when needed. Kind like a beater/daily and an occasional.

Hey, if my beater phone battery gets low can I just switch to the pack in the other model? Is that safe or will something catch fire?

Im thinking about grabbing a flip-phone for when Im running around and keeping the larger devices in the glovebox or something. Im just toying with ideas to get more life and spend less on technology.

I have an iPhone 6S for regular use, and an iPhone 4S for when I go outdoors, excercise or when there’s some other risk for breaking/losing/someone stealing it. I’ve got twin SIM-cards so quite easy switching from one to the other.

No, not a fan of switching. Just get a smaller smartphone that’s a size you like.

sounds like a pain in the ass... and not sure how adding more tech would decrease your cost of tech..

Remember these!? I had one in middle school and would totally rock one again as a camping/hiking phone. My only concern would be that SIM cards might wear out really fast since they aren’t designed to be moved around every day

Honestly, this is why I use an iPhone(non Plus model). Cheap it isn’t, but it has a big enough screen for anything I do on it while still being pretty compact. If I need a bigger screen I have a cheap Amazon tablet or my laptop.

edit: I do have a burner flip phone for camping and emergencies. It’s specifically on a different network and SIM so on long road trips if my primary phone doesn’t have coverage there’s a chance it will.

I used a razr from 7th grade until my senior year of high school. My parents said I could have a smartphone when it broke. It never broke.

Yeah man these things were tanks. Flip phones in general really. I remember these flying across the room and onto the floor with no damage

Yeah, they eventually gave in and let me join the smartphone world. That thing is still around somewhere and I’m sure it would work perfectly if I charged it up

Wow, people really do this? I thought it was a joke when I first read it. Why? I have an iPhone 6S and it goes everywhere. Don’t leave it where someone might steal it... If I know I’m going somewhere wet I will put it in a ziploc bag. It still works through the bag.

Android Tablet for at home use and the smallest Android phone I could find with good specs for everything else. I never understand the giant phones, the only time I would want a larger screen is at home or on an airplane. And then it’s easier to just go big with a full tablet. Don’t need a SIM card for that since I will always be on wifi when using the tablet. So no need to swap anything. Google voice forwards all of my texts and calls between both devices seemlessly.

I’ve even stopped using my laptop 90% of the time thanks to that setup. It just is way too cumbersome to bother with. I used to think Tablets were useless but they are the best thing ever for general purpose web browsing and stuff now that I dont have school work anymore.

1. My opinion (obviously), but I think it’s crazy to voluntarily swap between two phones regularly.

2. I don’t pay too much attention to the non-Apple phone market* now that I have an iPhone (SE), but the SE was such an ingenious move on Apple’s part and every time somebody (including me) mentions about obnoxiously large phones nowadays, I just think of how much of a home run they hit with the “small” but fully capable SE.

*the point of this is admitted ignorance - I don’t think Samsung has really done a similar thing recently and any others probably just flew under the radar (and/or are just low-end smartphones)

“Don’t leave it where someone might steal it”

As an example: when I’m doing sports (like playing a game of football) I usually have to leave my bag unattended on the sideline. No opportunities of locking it inside somewhere. Of course I’ll bring something less valuable (that I already own), especially when there is a good chance of it getting wet too. Then I don’t need to bother with the plastic bag either.
