This is the spot where the Defender had troubles from a better angle. It’s a lot steeper than it looks in the video and pretty difficult without lockers. It looks like I have traction but because so much weight is dangling the front passenger just didn’t have enough grip(I got through with a different but less impressive looking line)

He said he didn’t have the center diff locked so he essentially had 1wd, it’s no wonder he had difficulty on that. Normally when I’ve gone through there, my TC is actively grabbing my wheels.

I was assuming he meant that he wasn’t engaging a rear locker?
It took my 4Runner a few goes in 4-low(no FR lockers, no traction control obviously). It was no problem for the FJ you can see behind me with his rear locker engaged. Most of it is on me, I’m a novice off roader at best.

Nah, the way Landies are set up is that they’re permanent 4x4 with an open center and diff lock to split the power 50/50 between axles when you need it. Range Rover Classics are fancy and have a viscous coupling instead of a manual diff lock.

Yeah, I was aware of that, I just assumed that locking the center in those conditions would be a given and a rear would be used for added traction(you know, slow as possible/fast as necessary, relying on traction rather than momentum). But Doug is going to Doug I guess.

The old Defender doesn’t have great on road manners or power, etc... but there is so much you can do to upgrade them.
First thing I always recommend to someone getting into Land Rovers. Join a Land Rover. They are great for advice, cheap parts, etc...

At roughly 9 min in, he says instead of using 4lo or his diff locks, he decided to use momentum to get past the obstacle. There’s no way this is true. I don’t think he knew he had a diff lock until after. Potentially ruining your $70k truck by speeding into a an obstacle is dumb even by DeMuro standards.
