Reading the article in pip bip’s post

And I had no idea what a hook turn was, nor had I ever heard the term before. I had to look it up and according to Wikipedia it has apparently even been implemented somewhere in Illinois.

So, any Opponauts familiar with hook turns? There’s one thing I am still confused about, this method seems very poor for handling large numbers of turning cars. I feel like only 3 or 4 cars could make such a turn safely each light cycle.

Any one have any clarification on this from experience?

I haven’t encountered these personally, but I can see how they allow for through-traffic to flow freely, given that there’s no dedicated turn lane.

It’s still weird, though, and it seems to mess with the whole notion of not entering an intersection that you cannot clear.

I get how it works, but it seems like it wouldn’t accommodate more than a few cars per cycle
