This isn’t a post about what car you would buy tomorrow if you woke up, and discovered you’d won the lotto. What are you saving for, or what is most likely to be your next car?

I’m still 2-3 years out before I replace my daily, but this at the top of my list of replacements (this week anyway).

Kinja'd!!!

Or I could go completely impractical, and get a 1st gen Bronco or FJ60.

What cars are you guys thinking about getting next?

I don’t want to buy a new car at the moment, but I have put thought into what I’d buy if my car were totaled. I’m between another Outback, 2018 Crosstrek, VW GTI, or Honda Ridgeline. Weird group to choose from, but that’d be what I’d look at. I’d probably end up just going the Outback route again, as I have been satisfied in the 2 years and 46k miles that I’ve had it.

This fluxuates (of course), and depending on deals I find land always go out the window, but I’m generally pretty dead set on getting a Kei car. Most likely a Honda Beat. It’s at least a couple years out, I want to get our Hyundai paid off and and then hold on to that car payment money for a year. That should give me just about enough cash.

Kinja'd!!!

As long as I don’t get married anytime soon and have kids (HA!) My Integra will do fine as both a dependable DD and a sports car.

This checks all the right boxes for a project car. Easy to work on, easily sourced parts, modding potential, and some practicality. I’m not joking about the last part. I’d totally use this as a truck if/when the need arises.

Edit: Obviously I wouldn’t buy something as clean as this, much less an SS. Just something that’s roadworthy.

Evo. There’s been a nagging voice lately telling me I need a hard core awd rally car...

Gallant vr-4. This has been a quieter voice, but it’s been around longer so...

Fd rx7 with a blown engine. Aka the cheapest FD I can find that’s cosmetically beautiful, don’t care if it runs. Would do an engine swap or stick with rotary.... This is probably in 1st right now.

Another Miata. I’ve been kicking around the idea of either buying a 2nd gen to compliment my 1st (and become an expert, hopefully) or finance a Fiata.

Finance a manual Volvo s90 wagon (not cross country). I’d be pretty broke, and wouldn’t be able to afford rent for awhile, but I could live in the car, shower at the gym and store my stuff at my grandparents (this is a real idea that I’m really considering)

I don’t ever plan on getting rid of the S600, but realistically as much as I want a 2.7T Allroad, or a Phaeton, or an 840Ci,or something else horrifically unreliable...in all likelihood I will probably get a Cadillac or another Lincoln. I really want a Fleetwood Brougham, but practicality says I should really get an old Escalade ESV, but I would get a final-gen DeVille if the right one in DHS trim in triple black appeared...

And then there was that Mark VI I drove last summer with that amazing early 80s power steering and there’s this dealership near school that has a 1984 sedan DeVille with only 41k on the clock for only like $3,000...so maybe it will end up being something a little vintage. I don’t know. Tough questions...

Depends on who’s car dies first.

My wife’s car?

We’ll either straight-up replace it with the new model:

Or, if the current (previous gen) one can hold on a couple more years until #1 goes to college, we’ll do the right thing and replace it with the car it replaced:

Now, if it’s my car that gets killed (which is honestly the only way that car is ever getting replaced) I’m planning on skipping a generation and upgrading:

Preferably a Coupe with a Stick , although I could settle for a sedan with the automatic. I’d definitely like to make the 124 a little more hardcore to really handle canyons/autox/track days, and being able to have more than one passenger would be nice when family/friends are visiting. However my truck may not last to much longer. I had planned around end of this year early 18 to get the Alfa Romeo Giulia, but with no Manual transmission available in the US that is off the table, I’m hoping Alfa will wake up and bring one to the US market, soon. As such I am debating about assuming a lease, but massive internal debate I am having on that. It ranges from an VW Jetta, to a Jag F-type. Assuming I woke up one morning and my car was toast, I’d look for a Lincoln LS or a BP/BL Legacy

In a few years, I hope to have one of these:

But in the meantime, I’m trying to get my S10 to 350,000 miles.

I don’t even know because my goal is to limp my truck along another 56k miles (250,000 total) so I can save for an acreage. Once that happens, who knows, either a fun family type car, or more likely a new-used pickup as mine will be pretty worn out by that point and I want to start “restoring” it.

I’m with you. I like smaller trucks. I would love an early Yota, not to drive everyday though.

A post facelift W221 S65, though depending on depreciation, I might go for a CPO S600 Maybach in a few years.

I want a 2013 G37 Sport Sedan and a 2017 Honda Rebel realistically

Right now our next car purchase (unless I find an amazing deal on a cool project car in the meantime) is going to be a Honda Odyssey for the wife. She is currently driving an 03 Tahoe and it is definitely nearing the end of it’s servicable life. And with three kids it’s honestly just time to suck it up and get her a minivan. But truthfully we just bought a new house so her new ar is probably still at least another year or two out.

My next car purchase for myself is honestly probably also going to be a 2nd gen Ridgeline. I have been genuinely excited about these trucks ever since they have been announced. They are amazingly practical if not super exciting. And for someone who is going to be using it 90% as a commuter vehicle and 10% for Home depot runs and other actual truck stuff it is honestly a perfect fit. It’ll hold all my kids, all their stuff, it’s going to get respectiable mileage, and if it is anything like the many other Honda’s I have owned, it is going to be dead reliable. I don’t think I could ask for much more than that. But realistically it’ll probably be another 4 or 5 years before that happens, and by then I’ll probably honestly be looking for a decent used one.

Yep, I need to go drive one. It fits my life better than a full size would. I can rent a F150 once every 3 years when I need to tow over 5,000lbs (or just pay for a tow). I would be able to consolidate 2 vehicles down to 1 if I get a Ridgeline. Bluetooth audio streaming and Remote Start would be welcomed upgrades too.

Dodge Challenger R/T 392. Finally ditch my 2010 Charger.

Or a Nissan Micra. Haven’t really decided.

It’s a fun car, but only on dirt/mud/snow on dry pavement it would need more power or a lot of suspension mods to be fun. Mostly the car has shad a lingering problem I haven’t been able to fix. Once it’s warmed up it will stutter or completely stop accelerating. I’m about to replace the throttle position sensor. Hopefully that does it.

But the main reason I don’t love it is I’m not into the sleeper sedan thing. I’d rather have an Eclipse/Talon or almost any other hatchback. It’s handsome are that’s for sure, I just only like driving a sedan. This pic is from Monday, as you can see I was putting the AWD to use.

Yeah, they were overpriced as new cars. They still look great and they’re pretty cheap now.
