I’ll make a full post after I’m done, here’s a preview dump of the process I’m using. Still sanding, fiber weave (satin) layup, mount construction, etc to go...

Nice, what’re you thinking mounting-wise? Flush to the trunk or going up in the air? Standard wing stands or swan necks?

Why such a neutral foil?

Very neutral in middle... gt style. That’s where separation will be the worst. The edges have about a 15 degree Angle of Attack and should create good laminar flow. Worried it may create too much downforce, actually lol... edges will be about .5" diameter so I can keep the fiber attached during lay up.

Probably about 8- 10" up, standard trunk mount, reinforce trunk. Not sure if I can buy brackets and pedestals or if I’ll have to fabricate those too...

Going on the s2000? If so I can’t wait to see it when it’s done, and I love it’s shade of blue

Yep! I’m planning on painting it to match the body-- maybe leave a racing stripe of carbon fiber, if anything. Should look pretty similar to the CR wing when I’m done-- I’ll probably mount it slightly higher. I’m looking forward to finding someone with a CR to compare the wing against when I’m finished...

If I may suggest, run a small carbon spar either near the leading edge or even smack on the middle to add rigidity. Are you planing to vacuum bag the wing when applying your carbon? And what twill are you thinking off?

Also for filler material. Did you consider using micro-balloon and regular 2 part resin. Body filler material add a lot of weight with zero structural rigidity. Here is a really good book I recommend on the construction method you are using.

I’d been kicking around the idea of using the core as a plug and making a mold with a cutting plane; doing a full spar on the inside and bonding the two layers together... decided it wasn’t worth it for the forces I’m looking at. I got a 6oz satin weave, which should adhere to the curves pretty well. I’m planning on laying up three layers— a little heavy but it should be plenty rigid for the <400lbs of downforce I’ll be creating. I may take your advice and lay up the leading edge extra thick though— I don’t want it oscillating in my rear view mirror like the wing does on my buddy’s exige...

I’d heard quite a bit about micro-balloons when I used to mess around with model rockets in high school— I’ll check out the link tomorrow! The foam adds zero rigidity but the bondo at least makes it rigid enough to work with. Currently at about 2lbs core weight— if I can keep the whole wing assembly under 4lbs I’ll be satisfied for this project... if it were more than a one-off I’d be shooting for <2.5lbs. The biggest restriction with the core construction was the curvatures I could achieve— I didn’t bother going thinner than 1/2" for the leading or trailing edges. I figure any tighter curve would be tough to adhere to with anything more than a 1.5oz weave though, and I’m not ready to jump into that price bracket ($150+/yd vs $30/yd 48" width). Really the spoiler / eliminate lift aspect is what I’m looking for, not a ton of downforce. I’d have to mount the damn thing 15" above the trunk to get it into laminar flow.
