This lovely ‘94 only has 65k miles on the clock. Though I went to start it and it is having VATS issues... Cause of course it is. And then of course it is disappointingly an automatic, but has FX3 suspension so that is cool!

That is what I thought when I looked in there, but I a 6'2" and 250lbs (mostly muscle thankfully) and I fit great. It is snug, but the good kind of snug. I really with it was a manual.

I’d be doing the same exact thing with a C4. Suspension, big radiatior, GO. And I’d totally pay $500 for a brand new digital dash, because eighties goodness

I think the interior on anything out of the 90s is Haggard the Horrible. None of the old-school, angular, mechanical charm of the 80s, and none of the upscale touches of today.

Vats issues? Probably worn/breaking wire on cylinder or contacts to side of key chip. Solved by a cylinder #26033390 and two new keys with same resistance as original. Cut the key to the brass dummy key that comes with the new cylinder. Cylinder is about $96 retail , keys at $32 each.

I think it depends entirely on the car in question. A 99 corolla? Gross, even though an ‘89 would have the charm you mentioned. A ‘99 E38 though? I’m down with it. IMO it’s all about being amused by the times. For example, my car has so few luxury features that the only buttons on the center console are HUGE and all related to the climate control.

Lol VATS was GM’s security system in the 80s and 90s. 15 different resistors could be placed in the ignition key (1 resistor per key) allowing a range of keys and codes to keep you car safe. The wires in the ignition housing for is frequently break due to age and being turned for years. This stops the car from being able to start.

Ah, see that’s the missing link. did not know any one made LT5 crate engine. more or less figured what was made was either in a car or pulled from one.

so follow up if you can buy a crate LT5 why does no one use them for cool swaps?

WEll they aren’t crates per se. They are pulled drivetrains. Because there isn’t enough out there for the regular Joe to make a fast car I guess? They are like $8k on eBay, but that is engine, trans, harness, gauge cluster etc.

Its actually pretty easy to cut the Vats cylinder wire that run to the module and solder in a resistor to mimic the key chip. Have helped with more than a few.

OH! The damn resistor thing! A friend of mine in college had to half hotwire his Buick Roadmaster after it gave up the ghost. My Bonneville had it too but I luckily didn’t have any issues with it.

See that one has aged pretty well, I think the leather color helps a lot! It does look cozy.
