Kinja'd!!!

I definitely bought the right car. I’ll have owned my BRZ for four years by the end of June, and there hasn’t been a single day I’ve regretted the purchase. Even though it’s a little under powered for the platform (I have plans to fix this in the future) it’s been a blast to drive everyday. I have driven cars with more power and better handling, but I don’t think anything could replace this car for me.

Now why can’t we have days off for nice weather, like we do for snow?

It’s been a great car for me so far.Yeah it could use a bit more power, and the tires it comes with from the factory are rubbish, but it’s been reliable and fun to drive since the day I bought it and it hasn’t diminished in the years I’ve owned it.

Agreed, it’s a pretty fantastic car. My fiance got a steal of a deal on a used one that somehow got lemon law’d for the not-really-a-problem fuel pump noise. It’s always an enjoyable drive whenever I can get behind the wheel, and the seats are an extremely good match for my size. I love my NC Miata, but I could definitely see myself being just as happy with one of the Toyobarus.

Someone really managed to lemon law it due to the crickets? I spoke with a tech about it once and they said it was mostly due to the lack of sound deadening under the hood, and they could fix it but it would be back in short time. I just skipped the fix it’s only an minor annoyance when your stopped at a light. The car is probably the best fitting for me, I don’t fit in Miata’s very well even though I’m only 6'1. My legs always end up hitting the wheel. Same with the S2k.

Our BRZ driver at Europpomeet really liked his, but he was even more impressed by how the dealership handled his little mishap. The rear right corner got bashed in pretty bad when he lost it on an icy road. He got a loaner and the car was repaired RIGHT!!! We all tried to find any evidence of the crash. Not really perfectly matched paint, overspray, weird welds, you name it. We have seen the pictures of the crash, and we saw the car as is. Rear left and rear right are just identical even to the weld spots. We are all car guys and we couldn’t find a single hint. Impressive work from their shop.

Remarkably, yes, someone from California managed to do just that, and we got the paperwork to prove it after expressing some skepticism at the dealership. It still makes the noise, but after figuring out that ethanol-free fuel quiets it down a bit, it’s become even less of an “issue”.

The 86's really are great all around cars. Enough room to fit a set of tires, jack and stands, tools, etc... for track days. Also more than enough to get grocery and in a pinch runs to Home Depot for long items.

The BRZ and ND Miata are on my short list for my next car, when I blow one of my current ones up.

I fixed it by turning up the stereo. It’s really only noticeable when I’m stopped next to something it can echo off of.

Yeah outside of a few days a year I use mine as a daily. It’s the main reason I plan on keeping it NA. I don’t want to over stress the engine by shoving boost into it. I’m hoping to pick up a Cosworth stage 1.3 kit for mine eventually, along with a few other things to give it a little more punch and to flatten out the the dip around 4k.

Yeah. I Live in Gresham at the moment but, will probably moving to the Hillsboro/Beaverton/Tigard area this summer to be closer to my work. My commute is about 2 and a half to 3 hours total at the moment.

Yikes, that is rough. We live in the Tigard/SW Portland/Lake Oswego (technically Portland) area...where do you work? I’m at Intel in Aloha and the commute is pretty convenient, 20-30 mins with smooth traffic, can’t complain.

For mine, I’ve found complete relief of crickets with ethanol-free gas.

If I go back to E10, they return in less than half a tank.

You know what? The world needs more people like you.

Everyone is obsessed with the next thing, while relatively few people are out there loving what they/maximizing their skills in their current car.

Eh, don’t be afraid of boost. I’ve had mine supercharged for 2 years now, used it as my daily and taken it to drift events without ever having any problems. Just make sure you have a safe tune and you are set.

If you don’t want boost, I’d look into Nameless header and exhaust instead of Cosworth, they are the same thing except you pay the Cosworth brand tax. There are even better headers out there now too, Ace has a few that are worth looking at.

If nameless uses the same headers as the Cosworth setup I’ll have to look into it. I mainly want the Cosworth kit because of the sound. I’m probably going to stay away from boost with this car.

It’s the other way round, Cosworth used the Nameless header design. Save money and buy it straight from them.

http://www.cosworth.com/products/power-packages/fa20-platform/stage-1-power-package-range/

“Cosworth in an exclusive partnership with Nameless Performance, have engineered and manufactured manifold to tip, premium quality exhaust systems.”

For as much as they charge for the 1.3 stage (Retail Price: $5,250) you might as well go FI. Their pricing is a total ripoff for any “stage”. For that money you’d be better off getting an Ace header and whatever intake you like.

If you are worried about keeping your “warranty”, don’t mod the car. Or do, as aftermarket parts don’t automatically void the warranty like so many people think.

I passed the end of my warranty about 10k miles ago. My plan from the start was to mod it out a bit. I mainly want to focus on getting the weight down and improving the handling a bit more. I’m Going to stick with NA just due to personal preference. I’ll probably go with the nameless exhaust now though if it’s the same as what Cosworth uses for less money.
