4 vehicles. The “Custard” leather in a Toyota Corolla iM hatch was different:

But I honestly think it looks good.

Then the “Rocky Ridge,” truck with the power steps and lift has a nice effect:

And then the blue Z71 with similar effect:

And finally, dark brown stitching on a beige Ford:

I agree with you on the iM. My wife’s Impreza has the same basic color scheme from the factory. Light colored interiors are best with a mix of dark-colored panels and carpet. My 335xi also has a similar interior, but it’s blue on the outside.

That blue truck looks awesome but man I cringed at the thought of cleaning that beautiful custard leather. I feel like I would make everyone take off their pants before getting into my car haha

Hey, what are your thoughts about leather wrapping other surfaces besides seats? There are plenty of models out there that I think could use a materials upgrade over stock to really make them pop. I’m thinking of things like that hard plastic center console on the Mustang, or the plastic dash on a Miata.

Interesting, I wondered. How and why, if you don’t mind me asking?

Are there ways to put in Seat heaters when you put on the leather? It would be great to know if its possible , then I could probably buy a used car without it and have it put in later?

We actually put seat heaters in about 1/3 to 1 app of the cars at that me put leather in. Most vehicles just have them attached to the foam underneath the cover, whether it’s cloth or leather. Then it is just a matter of wiring them into the fuse box, and placing the switch.

Our seat covers have to be cut slightly larger than the factory ones so they can be installed over the foam. Leather is a natural hide and shrinks slightly as it ages.

awesome, great to know. If I ever buy a WRX I will go straight to a shop like yours! Such a good solution to the “all of the money went into the drivetrain” problem you have with Japanse sports cars.

Unrelated question: Is there a relatively cheap and effective way to get ventilated seats? Either DIY or taking it to a shop.

Short answer: no, at least not for modern car seats.

Long answer: The ventilated seats that were done by the company I work for were a nightmare. They took a whole day and a half to do, and cost about $2500. More than 1/3 came back for warranty repairs.

One of the main issues was the fact that aftermarket ventilated seats require a bunch of cutting of the foam, and then reticulated foam is under the perforations in the leather. From what the techs told me, it was a huge PITA.

But then, you could always get a bomber seat...
