I fully expected something shitty like a Transit Connect or a C-Max, but I got a mid-range 2017 Fusion. It’s an SE with “leather” and the 1.5 Ecoboost. It’s actually not bad to drive, at least handling wise. The engine sucks.

The tiny screen on the radio is terrible.

it’s actually above the radio; the radio is a silver box behind the center stack finish panel. but yeah, I haven’t met too many people who like using the MFD4.

I rode in one as an Uber week before last; so, more of a real-world trim, I suppose. It was okay. I was impressed with the side bolstering, especially for a mid-size sedan. Ride was good, interior was nice. Although, the interior materials on the Mazda 6 are nicer, which is not an indictment of the Fusion so much as an indication of how far Mazda has come.

It sucks. It looks incredibly cheap.

Ford have given up gear levers on automatics now?

I had one with the 2.5 NA motor for a while. I agree with your sentiments. Not sure if I want another Fusion after my SHO, but If I do, I’d either get a Titanium AWD or a Sport.

It’s an automatic, it doesn’t need a lever. I like this solution much better, as it doesn’t try to disguise itself as something it is not.

I’ve only driven the 2.5 in the last gen, so I have no reference here. The 1.5 feels like it would be at home in the base Fiesta, not the Fusion.

The 2.5 was more peaky than the 1.5, and the 1.5 is actually better to drive than the 2.5. More torque down low.

I guess my thoughts are skewed, as my FiST is putting down close to 270wtq, but it feels pretty gutless.

And probably 600lbs up.

The 2.0L EcoBoost makes all the difference. Same goes for the large central screen. I find it hilarious they think that tiny one is big enough to show a backup camera picture.

I do wish my moms had the revised center console with the knob over the lever. In the pre-refresh the cup holders are behind the shifter and makes the arm rest kinda annoying to use when there’s drinks in there.

Other than the engine and screen, I quite like it. I would strongly consider a Sport if I was looking for a grown-up car. It also seems that they have fixed some of the quality issues.

I was wondering about the quality and if it’s improved. Iirc 1.5L models are built in Michigan while 2.0L models are built in Mexico, so that might have something to do with it.

Quality issues on ours aside, I’ve always liked it.

IIRC, they are moving production in general to Michigan, but I don’t know if that has happened yet.

I live somewhere it’s a Mondeo and they’re all diesel and usually manual but I’m sure Mr Google can find me an automatic

And that takes up more space, and puts the cupholders at a weird place in comparison.

I believe it’s the other way around, nearly everything is Hermosillo, while Flat Rock has the ‘ability’ to produce Fusion if necessary.

Also, +1 for Sport. Very quick car, not a whole lot of character. I should review one soon.

I thought it was re-reversed for Trump?

Not that I’m aware of, the announcements that were all decided pre-Trump:

Michigan assembly (which does Focus and C-max I believe) will stop making those and go through retool to make Ranger/Bronco.

Flat Rock, which does Mustang/Continental will be home to the level 4/5 autonomous car around 2021.

They did cancel the remaining build of the new factory to produce Focus, but instead of moving it back to Michigan it’s going to a different plant in Mexico.
