I like driving fast on the street. Its not as fun when your on a track...
Not like with other people in the city but just bombing back roads is way more fun to me than any track or autocross.

this is why I’ll do a run of the street checking for cops/bikers in the other direction, then when I turn around I know if I have a clear run or not.

I just feel tracks are to flat. Back roads have so much more off chamber turns and odd turns, and I think that’s what makes a fun drive.
We need more fun tracks, with more elevation change

This. After years of trying to drive all sorts of cars fast on the street just looking for that driving bliss, the most fun I ever had were in cars with between 110-200hp with a manual trans, they all had normal mufflers and basically no modifications to the suspension or brakes.

If I had actual roads nearby me, then I would definitely agree with this sentiment. I spent like 3 days down at Deal’s Gap and felt like I could just do that every day for the rest of my life and die happy. But here in NJ I gotta drive at least 2-3 hours to get anything remotely interesting but terrible pavement most times. So being here, I would rather do autocross every other weekend or so and do a lot for very little money.
That being said, I have plenty of fun staying withing 10-20 of the speed limit just doing 1st-3rd gear red line runs and ripping it around 90 degree turns at “reckless in any other vehicle” speeds. Hooning a Miata is perfectly legal since you arent going very fast but it feels like a racetrack still.

definitely this. Lots of local tracks have drift events for people to do without fully set up rides. And they are pretty cheap. Killing tires that way is hilariously fun.

The one thing though is tire choice. I can’t run slicks on public streets. But they are hilariously fun to run on closed courses. 200TW tires are basically street legal slicks though so they can allow the same sort of fun.
I would have normally said NO, DRIVING FAST ON THE STREET IS BAD TAKE IT TO THE TRACK. But man after going to MATG last year nothing has come close to being as fun as that. Midnight runs down the Dragon were just magical. I was driving just as hard as I would at any autocross.

What kinda car? I got a set of saffiro 245/40/18's for less than $250 and they’ve held up very well. But than again I’m never on a track so they don’t get abused as consistently. The most helpful thing I’ve noticed was extra lock, it’s been crucial for the learning process.

Yea i dont drive as hard on the street as i do on track but the fun factor is different. I keep it within my and the cars limits. But faster than legal.
I run 205s bfg performance tires. Forgot the exact ones. But grippy enough

Its a 91 rx7. Ls1 with heads and cam swaped into it.
I plan on doing suspension mods after i get used to it. I think i run 235s 17s. Been a min since i checked tho. Have a set of new hankooks in the barn waiting to go on it when its done
