A bylaw I want: requiring properties on the corners intersections to have no structures or plants within x-distance of the intersection so I can see oncoming traffic and not your stupid bushes.

Even worse when snow banks pile up on the corners. In winter I call those suicide turns.

I’ll star that. My life is worth more than landscaping.

We’re going to tear down the bushes by our house this summer. It’s a pain in the arse when backing out of the driveway and we can’t see if someone is going to come flying around the corner since no one seems to stop here.

Don’t even get me started on tall snow banks. The biggest downside to a lowered car in winter by far.

My sister wrote off my parents’ car when she was 17 because of that. Took a minivan to the driver’s door at 30mph, and also was awarded a ticket for failing to yield at the stop sign in the process. She did however learn that when you can’t see around the corner you don’t just go for it anyway.

I dodged that bullet with 2 cars.

I haven’t been keeping close attention to Kinja, but since when has Ghostriding the Blip become possible again?

Dunno, but I do it when I can.

In many jurisdictions there is something called a “clear sight triangle” which requires just what you describe, an area on corner properties that is free of obstructions of certain height. Unfortunately, even where this is a requirement, after initial approval there is generally no enforcement when violated with plants or other objects, and property owners often are unaware of the limitation.

HELL YES. I’ve thought this myself. I mean, with all the other pointless things people have been made to do on their property, you’d think a basic safety measure would’ve been through years ago.

Well that’s a bummer.

I should add that this is only for fairly new subdivisions, since it has only become common in the last 30 or so years. So, older neighborhoods wouldn’t even have a clear sight triangle platted anyway.

I think we should be able to landscape as we see fit if it can be proven to violate the limit. Winter beater right through the fucker.
