I mean if the best handling cars feel as if they are “on rails” then railcars must be the best handling vehicles on the planet! Sooo, especially with autonomous cars and electric/hybrid performance vehicles, wouldnt this be the perfect time to begin developing a lifesized slot car racing series? The kinetic energy created could not only be used to keep the cars charged but maybe even power the area while being zero emissions, minimizing noise for the area, and still be crazy to watch cars travel faster without a human driver’s safety being an issue!

You could have a central slot connecting the cars to the track so that they would still be running tires and work in automated break off points or manually operated slot disconnecting so that the cars can pit.

I’m just saying, it seems a little odd to me that you can take your track car to the track but there’s no track to track your track car on the track...

Because you got to steer to win!

As an aside some places (notably DC, but there were also systems in NYC and London at least) did route their trolley power though a slot in the middle of the track, leading to an electrical conduit (this allowed trolleys to operate without unsightly, and sometimes dangerous overhead wiring):

I have a better idea. Why don’t we race trains? Set up two trains 100 miles apart on the same track, drive them towards each other, and which ever side of the 50 mile center line the crash occurs on is the loser. It’d be like football, but entertaining.
