Went downstairs to get some groceries out of the trunk. Well, took some 40 kms and a little over an hour. That N53 at 6500 rpm makes such a wonderful noise.

I love the look of this era of 5-series wagon, although it’s still a little awkward. Definitely one of the sweeter rides on Oppo.

As a joke and a question, what happens when the engine goes? And what’s the European equivalent of an LS swap?

I think we underappreciated this thing. One of the last NA straight 6 estates from BMW. I’m not the biggest e60/e61 fan but I really can see the appeal of this thing.

Hmmm... I think that would still be an LS swap.

But hey, why not go RB 26 DETT? Replace an inline 6 with one with slightly less displacement shouldn’t be that much of a problem, right?

The E60 has grown on me over time. But the usual owners ruin the image (not him though).

It’s so pretty! Also I’m curious how people are going to react to you going from a broken old Honda to a nice BMW.

I drove a relatives one (early diesel one) and it was bloody horrible. I later found out how badly maintained it is and how much abuse it takes. Have to wipe that from my memory but once you’ve had a bad experience driving one it sticks with you.

I have that with first gen Mercedes A-Classes. But the E60 really isn’t all that shitty, wait until you drive the boat that the F10 is. Maybe at the next Europpomeet our new E61 owner can make you appreciate this generation and wipe your memory once and for all.

You don’t really seem like the typical E60 owner which is usually a 20 something Osmanian folk living at his parents haha.

Haha hopefully yes. I really appreciate it for what it is, I just dont love it. I should be banned from judging anyway, I’ve been looking at diesel Meganes all afternoon.

I feel the same about the new supercars and hypercars. Most don’t excite me one bit. At least you’re honest about your opinion.

New or used Meganes?

After hearing the sound of the Honda in real life, I can’t say he is wrong.

Yes exactly this. Same colour and spec I want. I can’t afford a new car for a few months so who knows how much my mind wil change, but right now I’d be very happy with one of those.

I’m not into Renaults and I really dislike the last gen Megane but the Coupe is sexy. I wouldn’t say no to a GT Line coupe either.

Interesting fact:

“BMW never sold the N53 engine in North American, Australian and Malaysian vehicles, due to the high sulphur content of the fuel available in these markets. [5] These regions continued to use the N52 port-injected naturally-aspirated and N54 direct-injection twin-turbo inline-6 engines for the 2007-2011 model years.”

I went from a Honda with a fart cannon to a e90 3 series and it’s like silent torque! I never wanted an exhaust system after that.

Haha silent torque is best torque! To be honest the sound of Klaus’ Honda was fully caused by the powersteering pump, which was very loud.

From what I hear the hatch is junk but the Coupe is okay. They changed a lot for the coupe, firmed up steering, better suspension etc.

Yeah, it was just begging to be taken out back and killed with a clean shot.

Fun fact: It sounds fine on cold starts for the first 500 meters. The dealership isn’t open on Saturdays. The guy just came in to hand over the car and head back home. I got there a little early and went for a walk in the sunshine. The BMW was already sitting outside. They park their shittiest ecobox they have on the lot to block the gate when no one is around. So there is no way the guy was going to shuffle cars around to get the Honda inside. The car will probably be sold on to some import/export guy before anyone realises what’s wrong with it.

Haha, someone in the eastern Europe or Africa is going to think he/she got a reliable Honda from Germany, only to find out it’s a bit noisy, after driving 500 meters.

I was glad to read that the towing company finally admitted their fault. Shouldn’t have happened in the first place, but least they are doing the right thing, and that estimate sounds like the body shop isn’t cutting any corners.

You have a magnesium block with aluminum-sleeved cylinders and an aluminum head with CNC’d ports. A fantastic engine- lightweight and high-flowing!
