Too down to make this car related but my wife spent Thursday in the ER, missed a few days of work recovering and now today her cat is vanished, so she is completely shattered. Add in that the ER has already called to inform her that her insurance will cover none of it and would she like to make a payment now? We barely scrape by as it is and I’ve been trying to cut down below 70 hrs/week but I guess that’s off the table now.... We were just starting to feel a little more stable thanks to amazing help from family and now this. Add in that my wife struggles with her mental health on a good day and it’s a recipe for unpleasantness.

Pictured-tonight’s shower beer before I give up on this week/month/year entirely.

First things first: I’m glad your wife is on the mend, and hopefully y’all’s kitty cat makes his/her way back home soon.

Secondly, get an itemized bill from the hospital. Every last item, down to each individual tablet of Tylenol she was given while she was there. Go through those charges one by one and dipute them where you can. Hospitals like to overcharge and hope people won’t notice. Usually, you’ve got your insurance company to help argue for you against that type of stuff. Call your insurance company anyway, see if there’s any way they can reimburse you after the fact for at least SOME of the charges. Call the hospital billing folks and see if there’s any way you can negotiate a smaller bill and get on a payment plan. Or, see if they’ll waive the charges altogether based on your finances.

Try everything you can. It might not make the bill go away, but it might knock a big chunk of it off.

Sending you good vibes from afar.

Damn dude shit’s rough. Time to call upon whatever resources you can (friends, family) for support and hold things together with all of your might while your wife struggles. Oppo isn’t much, but we’re here for you for whatever support we can provide.

most importantly your wife is getting better

get an itemised bill from hospital and dispute everything.

A friend of mine is in the medical insurance business. His advice is to let two or three billing cycles pass without paying, then go to the hospital business office and renegotiate the bill. He says it’s common to get the bill down to a third of the original bill.

Hagggle with the hospital. It works. My BIL had to go the ER a few years ago and my sister negotiated their bill down to a fraction of what it was.

I second this one. Not from industry experience but because I’ve seen people do it personally.
