Let’s be honest: does it really make any more sense to stretch road tires?

Honestly I think the offroad tires have a better chance of surviving.

I could see that from a treadwear standpoint, but I feel that the likelihood of a blowout is much higher.

It was already a brodozer, so it wasn’t going off road anyhow.

What is this trend called? I’m seeing it more and more but it makes no sense! What is the goal with these mods?

Looks like an RC truck that way... Except those tires are superglued on and have foam inserts.

Actually, this would be worse for street driving. It might actually help in some loose terrain situations. They would just debead a lot easier.

I was thinking along the lines of the stanced cars.

Most sidewalls don’t have tread, though. Maybe sand could not suffer as badly, as long as they’re not jumping anything or going fast.

Apparently that’s called “Hawaii style,” and it’s for driving on beaches. It makes sense in that context if you want to maximize surface area of the tires.

That makes sense, air down and you could do any kind of sand driving. That being said I can’t think of to many beaches in Hawaii you can drive on.

When I lived on Maui there were lots of beaches you could drive on, like nearly any of them that you could get onto. On the touristy side of the island? Not so much. But we spent a lot of time on beaches in my XJ.

This. Most trucks on Maui looked exactly like that. My non-lifted XJ probably would have been less noticeable if it had been modified, seriously.
