The Buddh International Circuit opened in 2011 and hosted the Indian Grand Prix for a couple years before a tax dispute resulted in it dropping off the Formula One calendar.

The circuit is still used for club and national racing in India, but apparently the facility - and in particular case, the track surface - has fallen into disrepair. Check out these videos of cars getting air while making rather routine passing attempts at the end of Buddh’s long back straight.

These things aren’t allowed to happen when the FIA is paying attention.

Oh the desperate things ChampCar was trying in its dying days...

I do miss the cars, though. Their looks and sounds were awesome.

The first thing we thought of when we were watching. Didn’t Baltimore have something similar that they installed a chicane for?

Yup, apparently open wheel cars and railroad tracks don’t mix very well.

Who’da thunk?

Yea, the whole split fiasco was such a tragedy.

Well I agree on that street track video, yeah it doesn’t bode well for cars that low to the ground. But the India track isn’t so bad. Nothing the local people can’t do on their own?

Isn’t so bad? On a street circuit you’re at the mercy of the street. But on a one-time FIA Grade A track?

Nothing wrong with a few sparks flying from the undercarriage every now & then. Ive seen plenty of GP circuits that aren’t glass smooth & it didn’t destroy the racers backs. The GP Nurburgring track had bumps on 2 different sections.

Of course there are exceptions. I hope the race drivers out there voice their concerns if tracks do become too out of control where the conditions start to reduce the quality & safety of the racing.

We’re not talking “a few sparks”, we’re talking about cars not designed to get airborne getting airborne. There are many reasons why the Nordscheiffe isn’t a Grand Prix circuit anymore; Flugplatz is one of them.

But I hope one day they design Formula 1 cars to go airborne. Imagine how that would be.
