Insurance companies act pretty funny when it comes time to pay a claim. In this case, unless it was a drunken you while being recorded smashing your lights, then they should be covered. But like I said, they would rather give you used ones from a junkyard or cjeap aftermarket than brand new assemblies, even of you have full coverage

I wasn’t knocking it because it’s plastic. I’m saying it looks like it’s a solid $2k because of how complicated it appears to be. Almost everything you mentioned apart from the motor, heat sink, and wiring is plastic anyway which again is not a bad thing.

No. Insurance companies both on the collision side and mechanical extended warranty companies try to save as much money as possible. I’ve seen some messed up ways they try to fix cars, even when the customer pays so much for full coverage or a premium mechanical repair policy apart from the factory warranty. Most customers don’t follow up if the repairs were made with OEM parts. They just assume they are since the work is done at a dealership and that all the parts are new and OEM. Nope... not ALL the time. All we can do is not offer a labor warranty on used parts/aftermarket. Insurance companies will go to an independent for everything else
