Kinja'd!!!

As of April 1st (no April fools). I’ll miss the Fuji name, but Subaru has a greater brand recognition. Fuji changed their logo to the Subaru logo back in 2003.

That’s kind of too bad. I always thought “Fuji” and “Fuji Heavy Industries” gave them more street cred, since those are emblazoned on commercial trucks, buses, and parts/aircraft. Subaru worked as a brand name for light automobile manufacturing, but you could see on the door sticker that they were made by people that produced big time industrial products. I almost feel like it devalues the bigger products, like it did for Ford’s commercial trucks, which they ultimately sold off as a result.

The only company I know of that does well with a single brand over a wide array of products at different levels is Mercedes-Benz...

Unfortunately not, they announced the name change back in May 2016.

I’m going to miss the old name, that’s for sure. The Fuji name was special, same with the old logo. It made Subaru seem part of something bigger, rather than now everything being seemingly reversed (at least in appearance).

What I’m most curious about is how the VINs will change under the new name. Japanese Subarus built for the US always had an “F” in the manufacture slot (for Fuji Heavy Industries). I wonder if they will be switching to “S” as is used for US built Subarus (as long as nobody in Japan has claim to “S”).
