I realized last week watching MotoGP that on their online video player you can disable the commentators while still hearing the rest of the audio. I REALLY wish you could do that with hockey.

I’m of two minds. On the one hand there’s enough action in hockey without the commentators yammering. On the other I’m a Leafs fan so the yammering keeps me sane (gives me a distraction from the possibility of ANOTHER blown lead).

NBC’s commentator are terrible, and they cover up the beautiful sounds of the game. Hockey is the second best sounding sport behind racing. All the swooshes and crunches of the skates, and the crack and pops of the puck hitting sticks make a beautiful soundscape.

CBC/Sportstnet’s commentators aren’t too bad, at least not for the Leafs. So I’m all good here.
But I’ve watched Fox/NBC broadcasts... you’re right, the commentators need some help.

Mike Emrick needs to shut the fuck up. He’s NBC’s top guy, and I respect his knowledge, but I can’t stand his voice and he talks too damned much. We’re not listening to the radio any more. I like Pat Foley, and I miss Gary Thorne.

The game before the Panthers game they won, but coach Q was still pissed at them for playing lazy. I think the Panthers game was the wake up call they needed to not get cocky because they had clinched the playoff spot.
