This Is Why I Don't Go To Meets

Kinja'd!!!

I went to a friendly meet at Autozone with my coworker today and saw a Passat W8 with this sticker on it. Why?

.

.

.

It doesn’t really surprise me that car meets have these people. It doesn’t. Apart from going to CnC, most car meets are filled with this type of people. The socially awkward, vape smoking, shower once a week, “the reason I don’t get laid is because of feminism” type of guys. And I hate it.

I’ve avoided going to nightly meets for quite a while now. The instant I go back and I see this. And guys wonder why girls don’t go to meets? This is why. Get your shit under control. Fuck.

It’s notable that the Nazi Reichsadler is significantly different from any other German Reichsadler

Much of VW Vortex hates Jalopnik, they’ve always complained about the writing. Which never made sense to me since The Car Lounge doesn’t have authors. I imagine the person with this sticker was young and generally uninformed about what that sticker means. Because I’m pretty sure schools do a shitty job at teaching history. Just an opinion though.

Ugh. And the guy probably just had it because he thought it was funny, and I don’t even know if that makes it better or worse.

For the longest time I though parodies were making fun of the original work, not agreeing with it.

I’m not saying that I like those stickers, but if they were a nazi they’d put a nazi sticker on their car.

I left my local VW FB group and have stopped caring about going to VW meets for the same reasons.

On no less than 4 separate occasions I have taken my GTI to the local CnC meet and parked with the other VWs. Not a single person has bothered to say a damn word. Not even Hi or Nice car.

I have a 16 GTI SE with S plaid seats. My car shouldn’t exist. One would think that my out of place interior would illicit some inquiry. Nope.

I have surmised that unless one is of the Bro persuasion and has also lowered ones car beyond all usefulness one is not worthy of their attention.

So Fuck em.

True, though each Reichsadler looks noticeably different and this one is unmistakably from the third reich.

I think this one is significantly different from all the others. No one could argue that this straight-winged version is a symbol for not-Nazi Germany.

I feel very similar. Smaller meets are filled with unusual and often unpleasant characters, make/model specific meets are filled wth stereotypical individuals and bias, and the large meets are filled with gawkers who fail to keep their hands off people’s cars.

I respectfully disagree. Neo-Nazi’s have found all sorts of ways to subtly hint at their white supremacist views because they’re too chickenshit to actually say it. “88" is a great example.

Kinja'd!!! "DC3 LS, will be perpetually replacing cars until the end of time" (dc3ls-)

But this is no where near as subtle, I highly doubt it actually has any connection to white supremacists. It’s just cheap comedy that rely’s on you mistaking it for a nazi eagle, then on the double take you see the VW logo.

Exactly. As a fellow Mk7 GTI owner, I can’t stand these people. The only meet I find acceptable in my area is CnC and the only reason that is is because CnC actually has fucking adults that know how to behave there. And you know who those people tend to be? The weird car owners. The person who owns a $1000 Saab 95 Wagon I met was miles above anyone else who owned a VW at the meet.

probably used it for the same reason the nazis used it: because frankly, the german eagle looks cool as shit. and its a neat way of acknowledging your cars source.

believe it or not, the eagle existed WWAAAYYYYYYY before the third reich. Otto the 4th used an eagle, way the fuck back in 1250, with the most modern interpretation before the nazies used it was in 1913 (or 1919)

While yes ppl are assholes, and its entirely possible that the dude was an asshole, maybe he just liked the way the eagle looked? I’ve seen more then my fair share of these on cars/bikes, and most of them just liked the way they looked. (granted, one of them was an asshole, but for different reasons)

hell, even the swastika represented peace at one point in time.

Thank you! And yes, I am a Texan. Although I’m not a woman, sorry. I understand it’s misleading. The username came about from an old nickname for my girlfriend. I’m going to change it to her new nickname here soon that’s a lot less misleading and less mean. Speaking of which, sunday is my anniversary, so yay!

But again, sorry I mislead you. I’ll change it here in a bit.

But, yes, they did go out of their way to make it right by me. In fact, they sold me the SE for the same price as an S AND with my SCCA discount.

I basically stole my car.

the problem is we’re far enough removed from WWII where younger people have no clue of the scale of atrocities the Nazis carried out. They might realize that yeah, the Nazis were bad guys but they’re so desperate to be 3edgy5you they’ll cluelessly put stickers like that on everything.

so yeah, like you I don’t go to car meets, and I never will. Too many young douchebag guys just barely out of puberty who think they know everything about everything.

IMO it’s the same underlying reason some idiot parents are anti-vaccination. We’re at least a couple of generations removed from when diseases like measles, polio, pertussis, etc. were common. and these clueless twerps seem to think measles is just a rash, mumps is just puffy cheeks, pertussis is just a cough, and so on, and not diseases which can leave their children with life-long after effects. If the diseases don’t kill them, that is.
