I might soon be making a dumb purchase. Or, so people have told me. Just for fun, tell me what you’d get for roughly the same price.

You can get well maintained, low mileage Boxster Ss for 15k these days. Either one of those or a ~2009 Z4 coupe if I needed a roof.

Won’t tell you what you can get (a lot obviously lol) but I can test drive it for you if you want, film it and stuff.... JDM-Expo is not too far from me and I know the owner fairly well. Actually you should read about their cars in a bit :)

Fiesta ST. Or MR2 Spyder + imported hard top + either 2ZZ or Honda K-swap.

I’d get something like a 996, Boxster, m3, 128i, with the outside chance of a WRX(not really sports car but I’ve always liked them...).

A smart person would get an S2000 or Corvette assuming they didn’t need a rear seat, not sure what if they needed a rear seat, GTO or M3?

If I was allowed a toy car, I’d probably scoop up this 96k mile 2007 Porsche Cayman for $15,000, assuming it isn’t trashed. It’s even in my area, but I’d prefer to get an S.

“Porcshe” Cayman

Edit: I just noticed it’s a rebuilt title, never mind. I’d pay more for a cleaner car, and an S. So, if I’m capped at $15k for a toy I’d likely get C5 Corvette, as others have said.

For 15k, I would pick up either a nice C5 or a 996. If you want 4 doors, a nice 1st gen CTS-V is also in the price range.

Most performance cars have some kind of stereotype or cliche attached to them. The S2000 is loved by almost everyone, looks good, isn’t depreciating any more, reliable, high revving.

Kinja'd!!! "Wrong Wheel Drive (41%)" (rduncan5678)
03/31/2017 at 13:26, STARS: 0

The Subie tax is even more apparent if you compare FRS to BRZ prices. They are carbon copies of each other, literally just different badges. And yet there are clear gaps in pricing on similar conditioned cars.

I’ve always loved Z’s and Nissans in general. The thing that I find most people get turned off by it how big of a small 2 seater it is - particularly in comparison to Z’s of the past. Never bothered me though. I always found it incredibly enjoyable to drive and look it, even with absolutely 0 modern luxuries (even by 2008 standards).

I liked the idea behind the Crossfire, but feel like Chrysler failed when it came to styling and execution.

03/31/2017 at 13:30, STARS: 0

Yes, I have to say I considered one as a daily before I went more practical, and the interior was (and is) a big turn-off.

Also, I heard too many stories about daily driven C5 ‘vettes scraping on every driveway.

Kinja'd!!! "Milky" (jordanmielke)
03/31/2017 at 13:35, STARS: 0

Gotta be honest if I was going to get one, it’d be the BRZ. I think the front looks better and Subaru makes the damn thing. IIRC they made more FRSs too. Supply and demand I guess.

Kinja'd!!! "Milky" (jordanmielke)
03/31/2017 at 13:46, STARS: 0

Thats why styling is subjective, I love how the Crossfire looks just like the sketch. I do wish Nismo Zs didn’t command such a premium for not much more performance though. I think it gives the car a bit more of a “special” look.

Kinja'd!!!

Terminator cobra is the forgotten muscle car of the early 2000s and with almost 400hp to boot. Every other iteration of this body style is utterly uninspiring and tired to me but damn these are monsters. If you want to go another route id recommend a nice rig for like $10k with $5k left for lift wheels and tires. Signs point to a 4th gen 4runner v8:

Kinja'd!!! "Galileo Humpkins (aka MC Clap Yo Handz)" (galileo-humpkins)
03/31/2017 at 13:53, STARS: 0

That annoyed/annoys me too because you’re basically getting the same car performance-wise with just some different body parts that, honestly, make it look much better and certainly don’t cost that much more. It’s all in just having the word Nismo officially on your car.

I think the Crossfire was very close to being a good looking car, there are definitely some style/design aspects I like. I think it may have been just the general styling of all Chryslers from that era that I didn’t like which turned me off from it. The fact that the Crossfire turned out just like the sketch though, that is a major positive since it never happens.
