But here’s how the conversation from this morning’s fracas went:

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

Big Beard: you wanna fight in a fucking elementary school?!?

Me: I’m not looking for a fight, I want to talk to you...

BB: ...get the fuck moving!

Me:..You’re my neighbor, we live two houses apart.

BB: Great(?), why the fuck you guys honking at me?

Me: Cause you’re trying to back up into everybody, wait in line like everybody else

BB: I wasn’t backing into fucking anybody!

Me: You were moving. (he gets back in his truck and closes the door) Be patient, man. Be patient .

To preface everything, the guy lives just down the street from me. Nearly EVERY morning instead of joining the line of cars dropping off at school he pulls across traffic and drops off in front of the buses, which everyone is supposed to wait for before off-loading, especially on rainy days like today when there’s indoor recess.

He’s tailgated me before, blown stop signs, failed to indicate.... basically not a week goes by that I don’t catch him doing something illegal on my dashcam(s). But because he’s my neighbor and our kids go to the same school, I have never confronted him or made a big deal about him.

Until today.

He was parked in front of the dumpsters perpendicular to traffic dropping off kids, and as the van in front of me and myself dropped off and headed toward the exit, he began to BACK OUT and nearly struck the van.

So the van driver honked a couple times to get him to stop. He did, and then proceeded to release the brake and start rolling backwards towards me as I passed behind him. So I honked.

He then caught up to me at the exit, and when I came to a COMPLETE LEGAL STOP to check for traffic and pedestrians (kids were still walking to school in the rain) he aggressively laid on his horn 3 or 4 times, and stopped very close to my car.

So I got out.

And there you have it.

I contacted the school principal yet again about the parking lot, not naming any names, and he replied that he witnessed it and contacted the police. A few hours later they contacted me, and I have a meeting scheduled tomorrow morning with an officer I assume is assigned to whatever case the principal or maybe the Avalanche driver neighbor of mine opened.

We’ll see what happens.

I’m not MAD at the guy, and don’t want to press charges for anything. I DO want the school to take responsibility for the lax rules and failure to adequately inform parents of where and how to drop off, and not break simple traffic laws once in the parking lot.

Its sad, because a couple of well placed cones would solve a majority of the issues.

Sadly, it may take the hiring of an off duty officer or two for a while to train everyone involved, including your neighbor. My church did that for a while. At least no one parks in the fire lanes anymore.

If the guy is driving like an idiot around elementary kids, I sure hope they do something. What an asshat.

Getting out of your car in traffic leads to very bad things happening in Arizona. We learn that at a young age here. Unless someone hits me or mine, I’m going from point A to point B without touching my horn or trying to conversate with anyone. Our PDs are always hiring, so anyone who wants to enforce traffic laws can sign up. They’ll at least give you some armor.

Ah, the elementary school pick-up & drop-off shuffle, I remember it well. When my kids were in elementary, the vice-principle directed traffic into & out of the school. You, did, not, fuck, with, her. At all. If someone tried to pull something like that, even once, she would either confront you on the spot, or, if you pulled away before she got to you, a note would be sent home, and she would be waiting for you the next day. People learned traffic politeness really quickly.

The previous principal was like that. VERY strict about procedures and safety for kids outside the school.

This new one is a bit of a pansy it seems.

Sometimes one of the officers that has a kid he drops off hangs around. Things go smoothly when he’s there.

Talked to the officer this morning. They cited him for disorderly conduct.

But as far as his actions within the parking lot? Its school property so they can’t do anything until he hits someone or something.

Which is unsurprising but also sad.
