Kinja'd!!!

‘95 in Laguna Blue over tan interior. How many of these were made in ‘95? Only 122 according to the Jalopnik Miata guide , and only one of 463 built between 1994 and 1995. This one has 180k miles for 3k$ but it’s not all smiles and rainbows (and hair salons) with this NA. It has some minor exterior blemishes including a nice crease in the passenger side door and rear fender. The A/C is also not working but at least the heater works...sadly it’s spring with summer right around the corner so you might want to address that issue soon.

Here’s what could be a deal breaker for most of us:

clean but salvaged title (which I wasn’t told until after deal was already done...I wasn’t told which is why I want you to know up front).

I’m not sure what this seller means. Has this Miata been cursed with a salvage title or not? It’s not hard, people, it’s either a clean title or it’s a salvage. There isn’t really a grey area when the insurance company asks about it. They’re going to run that VIN and it’ll either come up one or the other (ignoring rebuilt titles as this car isn’t one right now).

I think he means he didn’t know it had a salvage title until he bought it? Regardless, cool car. Hopefully he’ll take offers below that, say 25-2600.

Not worth the trouble in my opinion.

Provided you can still register it and get it inspected (which is evident by its current registration and inspection) and everything checks out, does a salvage title really matter on a $2-3000 car??

It’s value can’t drop much more. Plus this is a Miata so it’s pretty much guaranteed at least $1000 in value. Unless you drive it for 10 more years, resale is going to be pretty similar. You can get $1500 Miatas with non-salvage titles... is this really much worse just because it’s a “salvage”? (Note: this assumes that the car is still structurally sound and all)

I guess a salvage title or a clean title could be a moot point since I’ve seen clean title cars that have taken questionable structural damage (never reported the collision) and I’ve seen Miatas receive write-offs because a rear-ending broke the plastic finish panel (already fragile to begin with) and bumper cover.

Clean titles mostly matter to people with insurance companies that might not cover them and/or parents who rather try to give their kids a legally-clean car to drive around in.

Amount made and amount sold in the USA are very different things!

Yup, my Miata still has a clean title even though the rear quarter is completely mangled and I replaced a door and fender and bumper and headlights. Repairs are easily worth well more than the car itself if done professionally. But I only have ever had liability on it so it will stay a clean title forever. So imagine “clean title” means absolutely nothing for anyone creative.
