Unfortunately, it looks like the Seattle store is the only place with one on display- perched atop this 60 series that belongs to the owner of Tepui.

Not bad REI. Not bad.

When i had a Subaru I always kinda wanted one of these. But they just seem so...unstable? I couldn’t imagine being inside one in any type of wind/storm.

Rooftop tents are a whole other world. They fold up in a minute and have a foam mattress built in. If you’re in OZ, they keep you away from the critters that will eat you and such.

Stability is based on the car you mount it to. I’d think twice about putting 200lbs on the roof of an Impreza. Wouldn’t think twice to put one on an SUV. They’re surprisingly stable in tent configuration- arguably moreso than a standard ground tent.

What’s with the offset though?

It’s REI. The same tent is probably $1,000 or so at Academy.

It’s a lot easier to have it fold out to one side instead of folding out on both so it stays centered.

I was planning to get the Yakima one, but after reading the reviews apparently it performs very poorly in the rain.

So, now I’m contemplating risking getting one of the ruggedized Tepuis and being overweight on my rack.

Too bad they’re all made-in-China rubbish. I wish you could buy an American one for a reasonable price.

Academy doesn’t sell them. You can buy one from Tepui for the same price. It’s pretty uncommon to see these on discount, hence mentioning it on oppo.

I figured; I was just making a joke. My thing is that I don’t ever go outside; I just like the premium brands. Patagonia’s online outlet has clothes for half price so I just stick with there. I have purchased REI gift cards for my friends for their birthdays, though.
