Any Oppos going to the BMW CCA track day event this weekend? It’s my first HPDE and I’m pretty excited. Hopefully I don’t get shunned for driving a Ford at their event..

Ford in a BMW club? Bro, I show up with this to the Porsche Club. It blends in magically against the sea of grayscale Porsche’s

If they are like the WI BMW group that runs at Road America, they don’t really care what you drive as long as your check clears. I’ve never seen a group that actually bans other makes/models from their event.

Would love to see a overhead/drone shot of this car.

I wish, but a soon-to-be-born baby kinda put the stops to my HDPE chances this year. I’ve run at least 2 events with them for the last 5 years, they will not give one single crap about you bringing a ford. Their events usually include about 5-10 Corvettes, 5ish porsches, one of the classroom instructors drives a Exige, the other a 911, the chief instructor drives a Mini, there’s a guy from Mass. that occasionally shows up with a Ferrari, and another guy has a track prepped C-class. I’ve seen Focus ST’s, WRX’s, a GT500, an Aston Martin, and a host of other non-BMWs out there.

The most important thing you can do is go in with the assumption that you have zero concept of how to drive on a track and put your ego in a box and leave it there. You’ll almost certainly have an instructor with you for all 8 runs, listen to him, they are very knowledgeable. Don’t worry about the fact that it feels like you are reacting late to every instruction he gives you, that’s normal. He’s giving them to you with enough time for you to process what he is saying. Go to all your classroom time and pay attention, the things they discuss in there are super-important, and they might not let you out on your next session if you missed the classroom. You’ll have an absurd amount of fun, but it can be dangerous, so you need to be serious about it while you are out there. If you decide to keep coming back, I’ll probably see you next year, look for the guy wearing a white hat with the red ZHP parked next to the 750Li with numbers on it(that’s my fathers car, he actually tracks a 7). Oh, and since you drive a FiST, try your damndest to make it out to Summit Point Shenandoah, that track is very rewarding for smaller point-and-squirt cars, and is quite possibly the most favorite of all the tracks I’ve driven on.

Awesome, I’m super excited. I’ll definitely make sure I get to the classroom and pay attention. I’m going both Saturday and Sunday to drive and Friday I think I’ll be taking some laps in the passenger seat of my grandfather’s E30. Should be an great time and I’ll post about how it goes when I get back.

You are going to have more fun than any other point in your life where you still had pants on. I can pretty much make a 100% guarantee on that. Also, your instructor will likely be able to give you a ridealong on one of his sessions, I highly recommend you take it. Seeing what they can do is borderline mindblowing.

I wish I was, but the car’s not ready. You’ll have a great time! I went for the first time last year, and it was a fun bunch of people, and a well-run event. There were actually quite a few off-marque entries, including a 2013 Shelby GT500, a Camaro SS, Porsche 944, and a few STI’s.

Also, what e36Jeff said. It’s a fun ride, but there’s always risk. There were 2 crashes last year, and not newbies either. One of them was an instructor if I recall correctly. The people were fine, but the cars were smashed up.

I’m shooting to make it to the June event, it’d be great to see some Oppos there!

Oh, and if your wheels have center caps, you might want to take them out for the HPDE. I don’t have issues, but my dad’s car(among other cars) sheds them when the tires get warmed up. Given that you are FWD, you might get a bit more heat in the front wheel hubs than I do in the front or rears.
