Because I have one and I even drove it on the freeway up to 60+mph!! Video and lots of pictures coming up later, but finding a kei-truck this old and with this low mileage is insanely rare. It’s a 2WD only kei-truck but damn is it good looking! Oppo special to anyone who wants it: $4500 landed in pretty much any Ro-Ro port you want! And guess what! I have a 15 minutes video and something like 89 pictures of the whole truck lol, so if you want to see it in detail, you’re welcome :)

And yes, there are some defects that are not visible in those 3 pictures lol, but overall it’s a damn nice kei-truck!

Man, I would love this thing, but I can only afford one project car, so all my savings keep going towards the 126 when the time comes! :(

Very rare to see one of these 550cc keis in such good nick!

I would love this thing... but the steering wheel is on a side I am not used to. Plus I already have a utility trailer.

Is it even legal in USA?

No “project” with it haha, it does not need anything :)

But yes, old keitruck that were not beat up to death and very, very rare...

Over 25 year old, easy to import and drive anywhere you want... Unless you live in California or in Hawaii... in that case, nothing I can do for you :)

This thing is amazing! How close is it to the Autozam version?

Also, do you ever come across AZ-1s?

AZ-1s, yes regulary... 1992 AZ-1 that will be exportable to the states once the US allows enough freedom to its citizen so that they can buy and drive one legally? No. Early models are rare...

Until you’ve driven one!! Really, they are actually fun as hell to drive :)

So you are saying I have a couple years to save up? If you could get me a 94 in a couple years I would gladly work with you.

I cna get you a ‘94 in a couple years, but AZ-1 are the sports kei that sold the least... So they’ll be expensive no matter what. In december 1992, expect to see the first October 92 AZ-1 to be sold around 16 or 17k$ in the states... And you know the worst?? People will buy them at this price.

At this point they are my dream car so that wouldn’t necessarily be out of the question for a nice blue one.

Obviously, but something that can turn on a dime and that is genuinely as sketchy as it is, is fun to drive :)

I’m thinking of getting one myself... To drive around for a year or so before selling for 3 times what I paid for to an american in need of gullwing doors.... That, or an R33 GTR to sell in 2020 :)

Well, if you get one to do that with and figure out a price when it’s legal to sell to me... at maybe an oppo discount of 2.5 times I can start budgeting a target number. My only requirement is that it not be red.

It cleaarly mention that it violates Virginia Beach city codes, so I don’t see a difference with your HOA logic... Don’t live in a place where there are restrictions aimed toward these kind of vehicles...

hahahaha, i didnt click on the correct reply on my feed of answers lol. But I think a good 50 or 60% of Az1 are red... that limits your choice...

I know, and that is a bummer. I suppose I could always vinyl wrap the car, it’s so small. How does it compare size wise to lets say a ford festiva?

I’m still seeing a lot of 88-95ish jdms coming over, even though we should be seeing a ton of 2001/02 models now.. my guess is that it’s more cost evvective getting the old junk than newer models.

These little trucks are cool until you get stuck in traffic behind one.. even the Atlas fire truck that drives around here can barely get out of it’s own way;

That’s what I figured. I know Ford Japan sold them, but they didn’t sell well.

Haha, sorry - I use ‘project’ interchangeably with ‘weekend’ car in that sense. Didn’t mean there was anything wrong with it! :D

Pity RHD insurance is so much harder to get and a lot more expensive here in Nova Scotia....

Definitely legal as anything over 25yrs in the US or over 15yrs in Canada is importable with no questions asked as long as they meet certain regulations. As for driving RHD vs. LHD, I’ve never done it, but apparently it’s really not hard to get used to.

Are you implying the 24hp FIAT 126 I will be importing from Poland will be slow? :P

as Doug DeMuro pointed out, making a left turn with a RHD at an intersection is incredibly scary. You end up staring at a passenger of a car facing you instead of looking down the road to see if cars are coming...

I know this may seem a silly question as you’re in Japan - but do you ever see many LHD cars over there? Prices in Japan still seem low compared to elsewhere for certain cars, so I would think LHD prices wouldn’t be that much different there, would they?

I am serious though, if you want to figure out what it would take to get me a later model AZ-1 and a general price target I’d be willing to work with you over a large commercial importer.

Kinja'd!!! "Flavien Vidal" (flyingfrenchy)

Well, you’re in the states right? Main problem is that as soon as each car, late model or not, will be legally importable, prices will immediately rise for this specific cars... So if a 1994 az-1 can be had for 10k$ now, in 2019, they will be worth 13 or 14k$ if not more minimum because of Americans... This is why Canadians stock pile them right now, to sell them to you with massive profits once you can import them...
