I think the closest thing to journalism on all of Gawker is probably David Tracy articles.

Technically it’s not untrue, because there are worse diets.

That’s like saying, “A W8 passat is not a bad purchase because it’s better than a Chevette.”

At the very least I think you would have to respect the work Diana does on deadspin. Usually depressing and tragic, but absolutely good journalism.

I remember a few years ago I was reading some Lifehacker roundup of life tips and one was something like “replace all of your socks with a few club packs of the same white socks so you never have to sort laundry or worry about mismatched socks.”

That was the exact moment when I realized that my parents had socialized me too much as a child to be reading Lifehacker.

Sure cycling your diet a few days in a week isn’t going to be as bad as way under eating, but that little of calories will kill your bmr for the day and you will feel dead tired and foggy. It is way better to run a calorie deficit that is less extreme all the days of the week. Then only cycle if you are trying to break a plateau.

Well I started as an archeology/ anthropology major and it wouldn’t be unusual for hunter gatherers to have a few bad days. But eating less, and healthy those two days is probably better. A fasting day isn’t a bad thing.

In all fairness, that’s a lot different from buying five club packs of white tube socks from Costco.

At least, I assume so. I can’t deal with the membership thing at REI, so I avoid it like the plague.

You out more effort into typing journalism with the spaces then the “writers” @gawker do “researching a topic.

This is a terrible tip.

You instead need the colored stripey ones that pop when you pair them with a freshly cut pair of jorts.

I think that’s exactly what he’s trying to say.

Don’t know if he mentioned that in the article. I’m sure he didn’t, probably because he hasn’t eaten in two days and is feeling dizzy.

A real pro would save the legs from the jeans, sew one end closed, and then wear them as jocks. Is it okay to wear socks with shorts? What color? Is Normcore a thing again? You can’t go wrong with jocks.

Those hunter-gatherers also had a life expectancy of, what, 35 years?

You’re 100% right. Diana’s articles are usually well thought out, well researched pieces about things that should never have happened. I just didn’t want that to get in the way of a joke, haha

In my current office we have ESPN on all day. The Talking Heads can discuss ANYTHING for an hour. NFL hasn’t been played in weeks and they can still talk football like they are apart of the games.
I have my front page set to news sites I read to keep track of stuff and nothing else. I block all Ads and if a website tells me I can’t get in till I turn my adblocker off, I use their cached version or I goto a different site with the same news story written slightly different.

Some journalism is just noise...and people like making noise.

Intermittent fasting is a legit way of losing some weight and has been used for a while.

But I’d say this type of diet is more for somebody who is already in tune with their body’s needs. Not somebody looking for the next Atkins/South Beach/Zone/Whole30, etc, etc.

Just like how you don’t tell a sedentary person to go right to the gym to do an advanced deadlift workout.

True, but a misconception. The reason life expectancy was so low was solely due to mass infant and juvenile mortality weighting down the average. There are lots of studies, and basically if you made it to adulthood, as best we know, the life expectancy of prehistory humans was in the 50 - 60 range which was pretty consistent across time (with exceptions for eras with major plagues or wars) until ~the 1950s when the medical industry started tackling end of life ailments. Max lifespan also seems to have stayed the same, in the 100 - 115ish range as far as anyone can tell. Correlations of life expectancy, without juvenile mortality, to diet are found in studies here and there, but are weak and in meta - analysis they don ’ t seem to hold as causal.
