Aston Martin V8 Zagato , from the late 80s. Total production 52. This particular example is one of two supplied ex factory in privateer race spec: the other one was Rowan Atkinson’s (though he’s subsequently sold it). This one’s also had an engine upgrade to 7 litres (from the original 5.3).

I had a good chat with the owner. He bought it new in the UK when he was running a company and stinking rich, and competed in it extensively, then brought it to NZ with him when he retired out here. He’s since had it converted back to road-legal spec and reinstalled the interior. He still races it at the occasional classic meet like this, despite the fact that he says nowadays if he binned it he couldn’t afford to fix it: all the parts are “hand build to order”.

Very, very cool toy, even if it is the worlds fugliest Aston.

Oddly enough given how rare they are, it’s not the only Zagato in my neck of the woods - I’ve seen a red one kicking round the carpark of a couple of race meets.

Yeah I love the 90's to early 2000's Aston V8s.

That is a very ugly car, but very interesting. Thanks
