Kinja'd!!!

Haven’t posted in ages, especially about my 500, but today I finally rid myself of the stock intake setup, and changed my plugs, since apparently the recommended service interval is 60k miles or so, and I was at 81k. One of the techs at work was kind enough to lend me his bay and his tools after we were done for the day, and this is the result. (I had already replaced my stock exhaust with a a homebuilt setup that features a resonator replaced with a glasspack and the aft muffler deleted altogether, finally the intake finishes my plan for the sound)

Run Up

Warm Revs

Sounds good! Wish I had a 500 Sport, myself! :) Or an Abarth! :P Or a Turbo!

Guess you’ll have to move to Europe! :P

Sadly Europe is out the question....I could probably get ahold of a twinair and put it in my Sport...but finding someone here who could service it would be entertaining.

Good sound! I dig the 500 and the abarth, though the long term durability and owne ownership costs scare me a bit. Do you find your 500 comfortable?

Yeah, it’s really comfortable...daily drive it to work, and I’ve driven from here to the coast (7 hours each way) multiple times and not had any issues...my wife’s Mitsu Outlander is like riding in a chair made of bricks in comparison....And in the 40k miles since I bought it, I’ve only had one problem, when the rear main seal started leaking (covered under my extended warranty), one cosmetic issue, when the mirror flag trim pieces started crumbling (35 bucks on ebay to replace both), and one recall for the clutch slipping (mine wasn’t, but I sure as hell wasn’t gonna say no to a new clutch at 75k miles for free)

Would be cool, but definitely not worth it! The TwinAir only puts out 85hp or 105hp, depending on model, and the stock 500 engine is 101, so not a lot more hp (for the 105hp version) for far too much effort in seriousness.

Oh I wouldn’t be doing it for the power, more for the uniqueness...also I didn’t know there was a 105hp model!

I’m not sure the 105hp model of the TwinAir engine was ever offered in the 500...don’t think it has been.

Seems the 500L in Europe is the only model with that engine I can find in their lineup at the moment (the 105hp TwinAir).

Hmmm...I wonder if the mounting is the same like it is with the 1.4

Also a 500 owner....the plug interval by the service schedule is actually every 32k and cabin/ engine filter... but I also use my 500 as my work vehicle as a courier in Atlanta so I’m a little crazy about stuff like that driving 800 miles every week. I love my car but it gets cab like duty so I’m already had to replace the front axles the clutch and I’m on my third set of brake pads and tires. I do all my own work so if you have any questions hit me up.

Good to know. As far as my plugs, the old ones looked pretty ok, gap and carbonization wise, except the oil overflow had somehow been leaking down onto the #2 and #3 plugs, and both were loose and oily, but not past the threads yet. Dunno if that’s common but I hoseclamped that damn overflow line on both ends so it wouldn’t leak anymore and cleaned all the oil off the valve cover. Between the intake and the new plugs I noticed a definite increase in power, but I have no clue how much I’m actually making.

I just use mine so hard probably more then most 500 drivers so ive become rather anal about it. Rotate tires every oil change which is happening every 2 months or so, constantly checking. Outside of maintenance and wear items its been dead reliable. Except my headlights stopped working with the switch and a new switch didnt fix it so I wired the headlights into my parking lights so I could get them to work. It was so weird a few months back they wouldnt shut off even with the key out. All is good now with abit of back alley car repair. 3 saabs and 1 fiat (the fiat is the only running car I own but that’s another story).

Can’t imagine the mounts would be far off. The 500 uses the 85hp TwinAir andi am pretty sure the 105hp model is the same engine, really, just bored out a bit (either that or different turbo adjustments..?).

Oh I know it was either that or a new control module and they wanted something like $800 for it so I spent $20 at AutoZone for a aux light kit and rigged it up..
