Anyone else having issues with Amazon deliveries?

Has anyone else been having issues with Amazon blowing their delivery dates? We’re only 45 minutes from a distribution center, yet yesterday neither my wife or I received the packages we were supposed to. The tracker will say guaranteed delivery by 8pm, yet nothing came. Considering the package supposedly left the warehouse on Monday, I’m quite confused on what’s going on.

Second thing, has anyone else had their packages dropped off by normal people? ie. no uniform and street vehicle? I happened to be home the other day when some woman pulled into our driveway and put our package on our stoop. Normally I would think that it was a wrong delivery and she was just dropping it off, but this isn’t the first time a normal person has made the delivery, and I saw my neighbor getting one too. Are these Amazon workers making deliveries on their way home? I have no idea.

Our USPS delivers Amazon packages mostly, even on Sundays.

We’re close enough that we often get Amazon branded delivery trucks, but recently I’ve been noticing the stuff I mentioned. Our last few packages have blown by the guaranteed delivery date. Considering we’re less than an hour drive from the distribution center, and they’re trying to roll out same-day delivery in our area, its odd.

I’ve seen some non-uniformed delivery people as well as plain white vans with or without an Amazon magnet on the side- particularly on Sunday deliveries. Wondering if Amazon is trying their hand at their own delivery operations.

People in seemingly personal vehicles and no uniform are typically third party carriers like Lasership, and I actually have had trouble with them in the past not delivering packages on time.

Occasionally I run into a late delivery, it usually ends with a minor complaint and a free month or two of Prime. Fedex typically has given me bad service while UPS has always been top notch. If I catch my UPS driver from my job during an office lunch, we always offer to share if he wants any. Fedex would get the same treatment, but the guy never sticks around or chats at all.

Amazon does use third-party services for some deliveries and they show up looking like normies. Amazon actually has a note on my account never to use USPS because they are so bad — I’ve never had a problem with UPS, though.

I only had some issues around christmas which kinda sucked. Ordered something and it was guaranteed to be delivered the 23rd. Email also said 23rd. Then, the next day, it changed randomly to the 27th. I was not happy.

No issues than previous years. I’ve always had occasional hiccups which I tend to ignore. If they happen two or three times in a week I’ll fill out the complaint thing and they’ll give you another month of prime or credit for music downloads or whatever.

A couple years ago I was having major issues with Lasership (who are some of the plain clothes delivery people...can tell it’s them if your tracking number starts with LS). They were consistently scanning the package as ‘delivered’ then not showing up for days to a week. After using the complaint form a number of times (and getting tokens) I dialed them up since obviously they weren’t fixing it. Phone guy actually shipped me a duplicate of the same order with same day via FedEx and put me on a ‘do not use Lasership for this address’ setting. When the Lasership package showed up three days later I called to figure out what they wanted me to do with it and they were all ‘meh, just keep it’...which was nice because it was a free laptop. That worked out well enough. A year or so ago my ‘don’t use Lasership’ apparently expired since I started getting stuff from them occasionally again, but whatever problems they had in this region seem to be solved because there haven’t been any delays, false scans, or lost deliveries recently.

Is this for Prime One-day or Two-day? Almost everything in the last three months I’ve order One-day has not shown up on the same day, and after much back and forth with their customer service I’ve just decided to stick to two-day.

Almost all of my Amazon packages are now delivered by normal people in random cargo vans or hatchbacks, though. Very rarely do I get something from Amazon via USPS/UPS/FedEx unless I opt for the five-day shipping. I keep seeing job ads for Amazon delivery local too, which only require you to use your own vehicle (certain size, usually hatchback) or to rent one of their cargo vans - looks like they get paid per delivery too, so you would think they’d want to make as many deliveries as possible.

Its two day typically. Its just frustrating. Like last night, both my wife and I were supposed to be getting packages with a “guarantee” they’d be delivered by 8 and that they were out for delivery. It wasn’t until 10:30 or so, that it finally updated and said it wouldn’t be delivered.

Delivery used to be like clockwork, and you would get your packages exactly when it said you would. Its fine if they want to use local delivery people, but you need to still meet those delivery times. That and maybe giving the people a shirt or something to wear would be nice. The vehicles I’ve seen make deliveries have all been pretty beat up.

Nope, ordered a book on Sunday and it arrived yesterday like it was supposed to.

Hey, funny story. I’m actually having pretty bad issues with Amazon in the Milwaukee area as well! I don’t live there, but I’ve had a lot of packages shipped there when I’m in town (usually only for a day or two).

Since December, I’ve had about six packages miss their “guaranteed*” delivery date. Another package disappeared entirely. It seems to be an issue with Amazon Logistics specifically. USPS packages seem to be fine, but I’m at 0% success with AMZL.

I had one package that was scheduled for delivery on a Saturday, and I got the “delivered” notification about 8PM Saturday. Checked every door to the building I was at, including one with a stack of packages for other people... nothing. I contacted Amazon directly and they said that (a) I should contact the shipper directly ( Amazon Logistics) and (b) it was likely they’d “accidentally” marked it as delivered and it would be delivered the next day, so I should wait.

Two things. One, it wasn’t delivered the next day. Two, you’re telling me the best case scenario is that you’re “accidentally” marking packages as delivered? Not awesome!

The kicker is that I don’t live in the Milwaukee area. If they miss a Saturday delivery, there’s a good chance I won’t get the package. I finally had enough of it last week when I ordered car parts on Thursday for a Sunday repair. It wasn’t delivered Saturday, so I contacted them to complain. Again, they said they couldn’t help me and to contact the shipper directly ( AMAZON Logistics). A half hour later, and they’d refunded my money for part of it and ordered a replacement for another part of it. All was well... or seemed well.

The original package ended up being delivered Sunday after I’d left town. My replacement order (not in WI) came to my house on Monday as scheduled.... but with a duplicate package. Checked my credit card and sure enough - three separate charges for my three orders. Wonderful. I’m returning it all, since I’m done dealing with that garbage.

The kicker in all of this is that their solution is to offer to extend Amazon Prime by one month when there’s an issue. It’s the least-cost option to them, so I get why they offer that... but why would I want to continue using a service that fails, if the problem never seems to get better?

A relevant anecdote - I had an issue with Fitbit. My device had some issues, I contacted them multiple times during the warranty about common issues and their solution never got better than “do a factory reset” or “Let us know if it gets worse.” I contacted them a month after the warranty ended up with a third common issue. They offered me 25% off of a new device. Why would I want to buy another one of your products if you’ve proven so far that you’re not committed to fixing the issues I’ve mentioned? They ended up replacing it, no charge. But still... what?

* use of the word “guarantee” does not actually mean there’s a guarantee... if Amazon deliveries miss the “guaranteed” date, there’s no restitution. It’s just “Oops! We missed it!”

It’s frustrating. If they didn’t advertise and commit so much to this promise of fast delivery, it wouldn’t matter. But don’t commit to “guaranteed” delivery dates if it’s an empty guarantee. Missing it half the time isn’t really a great experience.

Sorry you’re having those issues too. I wonder what the deal is. I saw on a seller forum that the seller’s are bitching about late deliveries too, as they often show up as negative reviews.

I’m relieved (and frustrated) to hear that I’m not the only one having issues. Hopefully they figure it out soon enough... I figured having a distribution fulfillment center close by would mean quicker, more reliable delivery dates. I can’t believe they want to roll out same-day delivery in Milwaukee!

Anyway, there’s another new one being built just south of the state line in Waukegan. Hopefully that’ll help out, maybe the one in Kenosha is just slammed. I guess we’ll see!

I didn’t know they were building a second. Considering the combined population of the Milwaukee-Chicago metro area is probably pushing 15 million, I would imagine it could support two.

Well, you might be surprised to find out that they’re also building one in Joliet, another two  in Aurora, and the third Will County location (south of Chicago). All are set to open this year.

Wow, they must really be pushing for the same day delivery service. That’s an immense amount of product to have stored

If you’re near a distro center, and get free or cheap same/1-day delivery, it’s most likely coming through Amazon Flex. Those are regular clothed people making deliveries for amazon as contractors (basically Uber for amazon delivery).

https://flex.amazon.com/

The Flex service is hit or miss. They show up to businesses when they’re closed, they fail to find where things are supposed to go, and their system is still kind of in beta. I’ve had things that say they were dropped off show up a day later.

Yeah, it’s been getting worse for me over the last 8-10 months or so. I get about 85-90% of orders on time. Which sounds good until you remember that you’re paying extra for the shipping.

And I suspect the “guaranteed delivery date” has been changed post-order on me a couple times, too. Maybe I’m paranoid but I could swear on some orders it’ll say “order in the next XX hours to guarantee delivery by XX day,” and then when it ends up being (what I believe is) late and I check on the site, it’s a later date that I remembered.
