Mad for sure! A genius, no. God it was fun though. Your Clio was going like there was a possessed bacon-filled Frenchman driving it.

I’ve discussed the idea with TFritch, but at some point in the next decade we want to take giant elderly American barges through most of the NATO capitals on into the east and all the way to Moscow. The Cold War Cruise . What I’ve just looked at is how close the route is to Nurburg...

Granted, we’d have to rig seatbelts for that detour to make use of the ring, but picture this...

Would that work, considering the turning circle? It would suck if you’d need a 3 point turn just to get around the bends.

But on a more serious note, that cruise does sound awesome. A lot to prepare for though, it would be far easier and far cheaper to just get something slightly less unconventional. Less awesome too, sure, but still.

You can get old yankbarges in Europe by the way. It’s obviously easier to get something like a Citroën DS, but landbarges are available. One very short search later:

Those are some very nice Yankbarges indeed. The Oldsmobile 88 particularly. The thought, however, is that even with shipping out and shipping back, the favorable price of a Yankbarge in its own ecosystem and ability to proof it for such a long drive by long drives in the US has some advantages over a sight-unseen purchase.

As a bonus, one or two of the barges might be sold for mad amounts of cash in Moscow. Hilariously, there’s a Lincoln brochure for ‘59 that was produced in Russian for an expo:

As to the turning circle, it’s 13.7m between curbs. I’ve seen a Galaxie (12.5m) banging around Brands Hatch. An asset of the most absurdly-sized American cars of the period was design for more relative agility than you’d expect by pushing extra length into the long rear overhang and trying to keep the wheelbase limited. It’s a *mere* 86cm longer wheelbase than 4muddyfeet’s Skoda.

Oh by the way, I had no idea you had your own Amsterdam Red Light District clothing(?) line

That line didn’t sell well. The clips kept getting stuck in chest hair.

The consensus was more fabric, less/no clips, no zippers ((ouch)) and that shoulder pads were so eighties.

It came down to something along the lines of y-fronts or for more coverage, boxers.

But they had already been invented.

So we went to the boardroom.
