My wallet definitely isn’t on fire... okay maybe it is.

Kinja'd!!!

Hell yeah, new Hawk brake pads. Which are probably needed because I personally haven’t ever changed the pads (though they might have been changed at some point during an inspection?).

Kinja'd!!!

Also, I bought a new 1:18 model because it was so deeply on sale.

It’s been an expensive 2 days.

But I get paid Friday, so ain’t care!

Just got my quote for brakes on the Golf R (2013) and just new rotors with dust-free pads... $1100 plus new fluid ($???). This was a very very fancy and respected indie shop but my trust is much more there than with VW down the street. The indie shop tried to upsell me on slotted rotors which while +10 cool factor I can’t justify $2000 for rotors/pads, thats BIG brake kit territory.

Yeah, you should be closer to $750 + labor for that. Stoptech slotted rotors are “only” ~$600 for a full set, and a full set of Hawk pads is around $150.

I’m half tempted to do it myself but I’ve never done brakes, ever and YouTube doesn’t give me warm fuzzies

I’m going over to my uncle’s place and he’s gonna help me. I’ve changed out drums/shoes on several of my buddy’s junkers, but never done the pads on a disk setup.

Dude, drums are infinitely more finicky to do than brake pads. I reckon you will find it easier, is why I prefer disks to not have to deal with the godforsaken tiny springs etc.

Let me know how you ended up liking these compared to your last set of -insert brand here- pads. I put these on my car and was thoroughly disappointed.

It’s not bad, just take your time and use the right tools. Prop up the car to a comfortable height, sit on your butt and blast some jams and work away while chugging your favorite light beer. You’ll save a bunch of cash for the two hours (at most) that it will take. Especially on a newer car that hasn’t been rustified.

I know the feel. I spent 1100 on the BMW in a single day. that fucking hurt like a bitch.

These are necessary maintenance, so the cost doesn’t hurt as bad.
