Wife just sent me this photo. This is why we have identifying local not for profit advocacy group stickers on our car. So we know which one is ours.

So you still couldn’t tell it apart right? All the stickers were probably the same on all of them. Lol

I think the one on the right actually has the same ski rack we have, they just recently took it off.

The types of stickers Subaru allows you to put on an outback are very particular.

Nah, different demographics need different stickers to stand out.

For example if you’re going to put stickers on a Prius, it should be of the TRUMP/2nd Amendment/Drill baby Drill variety.

...and now I want to get a Prius and do that to it. Damn you

It takes me about a month to spot 3 Forresters of any color, yet your wife spots 3 identical ones next to each other? Well done.

That’s called the difference between Europe and America for ya. Subaru is huge here on the coasts.

It’s big in Switzerland I believe. The last time I visited I saw tons of Subarus, especially outside of cities. Makes sense too, the AWD is actually useful there. In my flat country the AWD is pointless and wasteful, the cars get taxed higher due to higher emissions and, well, Subarus typically are a bit ungainly.

There is really no alternative for an American to the outback if you want a reasonably priced mid-sized wagon like car. They have become very efficient in recent years too. They compete directly with the Honda CRV, Toyota RAV4, etc... but are actually better driving, get better fuel economy and have more interior volume.

It snows a shit ton here and we live at the top of a steep county road so having the AWD is really nice. There are days I don’t drive my Mazda 3 because I know it won’t make it home.

As much as I ke the Volvo there is no local dealer support and they cost quite a bit more than the outback which even today I could get a 2.5i premium out the door for $27500

Those are outbacks! Do they even sell those in Europe?

Kinja'd!!! "duurtlang" (duurtlang)
03/28/2017 at 19:51, STARS: 2

Sure, theoretically they do. They’re very rare, at least in the countries I frequent they are, but they are available. In my country alone Subaru sold a whopping 117 Outbacks in 2016, while the total number of Subarus in 2016 was 779. The brand had a market share of 0.2%. To put that in perspective: VW sold close to 11000 Golfs here in 2016, so roughly 100 Golfs per Outback.

We get the Subaru BRZ, Forester, Levorg, Outback, WRX STI and XV.

Decided to check the Outback to Golf ratio for the U.S. Last year VW sold 61,687 Golfs. By comparison Subaru sold 182,898 Outbacks. So about three Outbacks per Golf. Subaru as a whole sold 615,132 cars, VW sold 322,948

One Levorg is worth it all!

Wait - they only sell the STi and not the regular WRX as well? Interesting!

Kinja'd!!! "duurtlang" (duurtlang)
03/29/2017 at 17:59, STARS: 0

Only the STI, the regular WRX is unavailable. There isn’t even a normal Impreza available any more, which surprises me somewhat. When it was sedan-only it made sense to not offer it, but if I’m not mistaken there’s a hatch now so that should be offered.

The Levorg looks promissing but is CVT-only. I will admit I’ve never driven a CVT, but given my low tolerance of automatics that aren’t absolutely perfect I doubt I’ll like it. Strange that there’s no manual in Europe.

03/29/2017 at 18:17, STARS: 0

Interesting. Makes sense why the XV isn’t on your list either I guess. I’d imagine it’d be a good option compared to a Cactus etc. Essentially an Impreza hatch with a lift. My wife has one...CVT isn’t horrible, but if you hate automatics it isn’t anything brilliant. Available with a manual though. Given that it exists you’d imagine the Impreza hatch and XV would be good options for Europe.

03/29/2017 at 18:40, STARS: 1

We do get the XV, I guess you overlooked it as it is on my list.

We get the Subaru BRZ, Forester, Levorg, Outback, WRX STI and XV .

I noticed they do get the Impreza in Germany. Must just be my market then. Anyway, there’s no way Subaru is going to compete with the Cactus. The XV is considerably larger and way more expensive, even before guzzler/emissions taxes. Strangely enough trunk space (seats up and down) and wheel base are almost the same, yet the XV is 30 cm longer. Must be a packaging issue.
Before taxes a Cactus starts below $13k US in my market, the XV $16.6k. A base 1.6 XV is also a whopping 420 kg (926 lbs) heavier than a base Cactus. That mandatory CVT doesn’t do it any favors either. They used to have manual XVs but not any more it seems.
