They like compoundnouns. Like this one.
A “barn” is a child (as in “bairn”, a dialect word in northern England and Scotland), a “vagn” is a vehicle, as in “wagon” and “parkering” is just that.
So childvehiclesparking. Logical, you see.
“Restaurangen” means “the restaurant”. Why the ...ng? Because it’s the French pronunciation writtten phonetically. So “salon” is “salong” and so on.

I love French intrusion into other languages. Some accept it, some reject it. Look at all the German verbs ending in

ieren
”
as an example. Or in the case of England, you can delineate the Norman influence based on whether the nearby towns include

influenced) or

chester
”
(
traditional). Lots of subtle things like that. I

re just too hard to break apart, separate words are far more logical to me. That

You can still pick out the Norse influence north of a certain point in Britain too. Fell (hill), dale (valley), bairn (child), the ending....ay in many Scottish islands and many more.

Yep, I sometimes joke that Scotland and Iceland almost converge (geographically and linguistically, since Icelandic is supposed to be what English might be if not for the Romantic influence), especially in the Orkneys and Faroe Islands. I’ve never ever been to Scotland, but I’ve had Scottish people tell me some of the accents and words from the islands are unrecognizable.
