Fight me? Nah, you know I’m right. Its predecessors were good, but these are better. Its successors are shit cars, regardless of your opinions on styling. They could look like a Quattroporte and still be shit. This is the one I/you/we want. It’s Peak Seven.

Odd, I think you meant to say E32

A fair point, but the E32 V8s had a couple of issues that the E38s do not. Great cars though, a very close second. If nothing else, the E38S feels like a fully developed E32.

Why the hell do literally all of them have a faded/yellowed reverse light?
(Also, I agree.)

Good question, it bugs me too. Cheap plastic and UV exposure, same as the headlamp lenses on everything nowadays. The red lenses don’t fade the same.

Fact. Coincidentally, that time period is peak BMW.

Not at all coincidental, that’s just a fact. I made just that argument to somebody earlier today, it’s cliche, but they quite literally don’t build them like they used to.

I wish there were such a thing as an E38 with a E32 rear fascia swap. I love the angular dragonfly tail of the ‘32 much more than the round and generic ‘38, but the 38 is better in every other regard.

That would be great, I have to agree the E32 has the better ass.

But what about the front suspension, the front suspension is crap. Especially with the big V8 or even worse the V12.

You may well be right...we’ve had E32's and also an E38 with the M73. The E32's are prettier and a little more of a driver’s car in that you feel involved and connected with the car imo.
But...the E38 was a beast of a machine that did absolutely everything flawlessly and never missed a beat. An amazing car! Agile like an Elise, cushily comfortable like a big Jag, brutally fast like a Viper >:D
And got surprisingly good fuel economy

Nope, that would be the newest style BMW I would buy. Well except maybe an early Z4....

At this point, I would try to use the E32 (one of two cars that got me into BMW as a kid) and the E65 (the 7 Series when I was a kid) as counterarguments to tell you how wrong you are, but I’ll have to give it to you here. I always wanted a silver 750iL like the one in Tomorrow Never Dies. This generation (E38) is also the first 7 Series I ever drove (740iL).
(The ones pictured are my dream versions of each in the correct colors. Kaschmir Beige E32 750iL. Gib pls.)
Alternative 7-Series for your time.

And manuels! The M30B35 with a stick in those is quite a lot of fun, they have good gearing to make up for the lack of power.

Exactly! The Manučl 735i (non L!) was amazing. Although I’d still prefer the E34 535i.

So are the reverse light lenses a separate physical piece from the red lenses?
"RallyWrench" (rndlitebmw)
03/29/2017 at 21:53, STARS: 0
Yes, but they can’t be purchased separately, they’re bonded on.
