As the others were so kind as to organise the whole shebang, all I had to do was throw some spare clothes and even more beer into the trunk and off I was into the unknown. In hindsight, it would have been wise to watch some ring videos or play a cheap generic racing game and try to memorize which part of the track follows which. As it is just blind crests and curves, driving the ring by sight isn’t much better than driving it by feel, or by sound.
This shot was taken after I had finally grown the balls to pass Bvdv - The dutch engineer in his white Twingo only to realise that the caroussel was next. Fuuuuuuuck!!!! I decided to ride it out on the banked concrete and not do anything sudden. Unfortunately that meant that I couldn’t get out of the way of Mr Porsche who came barelling down at incredible speed. But all in all, 10/10 will do again, especially with such a nice crowd like the Europpos.
4muddyfeet was hauling ass by the way. While I got passed by a lot of other oppos, he did the opposite. Never laugh a a taped up diesel Skoda!
Duurtlang as was really fast as well. Our cars are pretty even matched, but I couldn’t (or didn’t dare to) keep up with him.

It was fun drive part of it together with you, I tried to keep up after the caroussel, but the cars you held up (just joking) meant I needed to stick to the right, in the part with the blind crests.

Yeah, I feel kinda bad for blocking the inside of Karussell for you (and holding up faster traffic), but I didn’t see any other option at that moment.
Anyways, great experience, especially if you do it together with such nice people.

Not one single Juke THE WHOLE WEEKEND!!!! Not at Spa, not at or near the ‘Ring. My guess is that the track people like to start with something that isn’t inherently flawed by a high center of gravity before they start throwing tons of money at their toys. We were almost the only ones without some sort of cage by the way. Which goes to show what we were up against.

Probably best to put up a post in the early morning (US time), that way most Euro people will see it. I might be in, but I’d have to make it a multiple day trip then.
I’ll post our oppomeet routes in a couple of days, should you need some inspiration for the area.

Yeah, that’s a good idea. I’ll likely make a post next week or so, once my plans for the Ring are fully determined. I’m also hoping to go visit TMG headquarters on that day as well.

There was the older Passat (B5.5) wagon TDI with the ski box on top that drove the ring shortly after us. I’d take that over a Juke though. I also liked the faded red stock looking early 90s Toyota Starlet. It did have a cage for some reason. Besides Bjorn and you I also overtook an early ‘00s Civic hatch on the ‘Ring by the way, that one wasn’t overly fast either.

ahem a LEGENDARY public toll road.
Also, lets not be too hasty, my race car has 105 hp and redlines at 4K rpm. Because that’s what 3.8L of displacement got you in America in 1976. I actually think it would legitimately be pretty close (my car still has lots of very sticky tire....but it is seriously a dog in a straight line.)

That’s why I personally, as a smoker only drive petrol cars. It’s bad enough that you might get a whiff of passive smoke, if I also drove diesels......
