I’ve always been Team Prelude. I had serious love for them in the late 90s. Especially the 5th gen.

I have to admit. An engine bigger than two liters sounds interesting.

Do not believe the honeyed words of those from the big-block Honda community. Displacement leads to torque and torque leads to inefficiency and inefficiency leads to dramatically increased curb weight.

I was so ready to argue against the Integra until I saw the comparison link, and for that specific one, I’ll have to agree: the second generation Integra > fourth generation Prelude.
However, the fifth generation Prelude > third generation Integra.

The 4th gen Prelude got the H22 in the US in 1993.

How I wish we got the SE in the US. The ATTS, while wonderful when it works, is such a pain in the ass to maintain.

I’d be happy with either one, most likely. The interior of that Integra looks like it could have been lifted from my (long gone) 86 Accords or 85 CRX. Then again, the first gen Integra really was not much more than a restyled Accord.

I owned a ’92 GSR and dream of a built H22-swapped ’90 or ’91 Prelude Si 4WS.

It’s got the better visibility and lower weight like the DA Integra, super awesome low-slung pre-90s Honda interior, no annoying automatic seatbelts, and better overall proportions than the DA Integra (which is a bit stubby looking but I still like it).

Only problem is there are very few suspension upgrades for the 3rd gen Prelude.

Yeah, I left my 3rd gen stock because the aftermarket is so thin, and the most prominent aftermarket parts fabricator for it is an insufferable asshole.

Yeah, the Whiteline sway bars seem to be long since out of production although folks on PreludePower are organizing a bit of a group buy for a rear sway bar.

Seems like the only options for performance shocks are Tokico blues as part of the “advanced handling kit” with springs, that may or may not actually still be in production.

Then you have the weird off-brand coilovers like Ksport or Function & Form which are probably the same since both of them mention 32-level damping adjustment and 12 kg/mm front, 6 kg/mm rear springs.

Those are some stiff-ass springs for a ~2600 lb car, talking 672 lb/in front and 336 lb/in rear, which for properly setting up a fun fwd Honda you need relatively more rear roll stiffness than that. Like the Tein Street Basis for the DA Integra are 9/5 kg/mm springs, just as an example.

03/27/2017 at 15:55, STARS: 0

Yeah, I don’t trust the off-brands like those. With my 5th gen I’d rather stay with my stock parts until I can afford proven quality stuff. Ideally I’d like the Mugen spring kit, but it’s $1100. I have about 25% of my suspension, but I’d like to get more before I start putting stuff on it.

Kinja'd!!! "Textured Soy Protein" (texturedsoyprotein)
03/27/2017 at 16:27, STARS: 0

Well Mugen is kinda in the extreme other direction. ;)

But just as an example with your 5th gen, or even a 2nd gen Integra, if you wanted performance shocks and lowering springs, you have any number of options. Shocks from Koni, Bilstein, KYB and Tokico. Springs from Eibach, H&R, B&G, Neuspeed, and many others. Plenty of sway bars, control arms, bushings, etc.

As much as I love the 3rd gen Prelude, I could always go with another DA Integra, K20 swap, nice not-too-aggressive suspension, JDM 1-piece headlights, white on gold mesh rims with polished lips.

Like this but less stanced, lose the front lip, CF hood, and car bra.

I’ve always liked the 2nd gen Integra. Almost bought one before I got my first Prelude years ago, but it sold before I could get it. I just haven’t been able to find one that hasn’t been trashed, and 1st gens are even worse in that regard.

I think with my 5th gen I’m going to get H&R springs and Koni Yellow shocks. I already have a rear sway bar and both strut tower bars, the front one being an out-of-production Neuspeed that I picked up for only $40. Also have most of an Energy Suspension poly bushing kit and an adjustable camber kit (I want to say Ingalls) that came free with one of my older Preludes. Other than the spring/shock combination I don’t have that much left to get. Sway bar endlinks, tie rods/ends, new ball joints, and probably a couple things I can’t remember.

Alas, all North American 5th gens were VTECs. I could always import a non-VTEC JDM model in 2021, though.
