It’s sad that they used to derate the engine for the auto, now they do for the manuals. I enjoyed driving my dad’s ‘99 6 speed. Was actually better shifting than my Dakota’s 5 despite being connected to the transmission by a 1:1 scale model of the CN tower.

nope. it’s derated to 660 lb-ft with the manual. you get 800 lb-ft with the 68RFE automatic, and if you want the full 900 lb-ft you need to stump up for the Aisin AS69RC.

The manual is derated to like 600. I guess it wasn’t worth the investment to develop a beefier manual trans.

it’s pretty difficult to get a single-countershaft manual transmission to tolerate more than about 700 lb-ft of torque. it’s a few things; #1 the solid input, output, counter and layshafts can only handle so much torque before they snap; #2 parallel gearsets inherently try to force each other apart when you apply torque to them; #3 the helical gears used also experience significant thrust load under torque. Heavy truck transmissions are beefy-ass double-countershaft boxes- sometimes with straight-cut gears in certain cases- which can be made much stronger.
automatics, on the other hand, are almost all done with planetary gearsets which are trivial to make incredibly strong.

Something tells me this is a build for show. The shop has done four or five SEMA vehicles and we always get them before the suspension/stereo/wheels/etc.
Perhaps that’s because the leather needs a few weeks to settle and lose its box wrinkles.
