What’s harder to ignore is that this man walked away from this incident unscathed. Had he been black or brown, I think the outcome would have been a LOT different.
Case in point: Black man gets arrested for the horrific, unspeakable crime of sitting on the porch of his mom’s house, which also happens to be where he lives, and also happens to be shown as his address on his government-issued identification.

Yeah, this officer was pretty calm and collected. Whether that’s because he’s a decent cop, because he was on camera, or because he was dealing with a white guy isn’t really knowable, but there’s no question that on average, people of color tend to has less favorable interactions with the police.

Just a quick recap on the 13 counties seeking permission to participate in the 287(g) immigrant detention program:
Nine of them are 80 percent or more white (One of them is 86 percent white).
The other four of them are 69 percent or more white (69-76 percent, to be more precise).
None of the counties with large Latino populations — whether near or far from the border (such as Dallas, Bexar, Travis and Harris counties) — are requesting participation in the detainer program.
Yeah... I will not be traveling to or through any of those counties anytime soon. I’m a citizen by birth, but I don’t need to have the added worry of being profiled for my brown skin, hair and eyes in places where people like me are not often seen and are automatically viewed with suspicion.

While it’s horrendous the number of people of color that are being killed, arrested, assaulted, etc in police interactions with white officers it’s a pretty wild statement to imply EVERY white officer would have arrested, beaten or killed this man if he were a darker shade of skin.
Seems like this cop has a shockingly level head and it’s pretty unfair to assume he wouldn’t apply it across the board.

Who said anything about being “beaten or killed”? And where in my comments did I say that the officer’s race has anything to do with how the interaction would go with a POC?
Now you’re the one assuming things.
But when the difference in how cops approach POC compared to white people ranges from them being ruder or more aggressive, to arresting us at disproportionately higher rates than whites, all the way to them using deadly force (even on children who have never been accused of a crime ) at rates astronomically higher than is ever used on white people, then not only is it not UNFAIR for POC to assume that ANY interaction with a cop has the potential to be a dangerous encounter, it’s a matter of self preservation to treat those encounters as such.

I’m guessing you’re white and that your parents have never had a conversation with you quite like the ones shown in the above video. If you’re a parent, I bet you’ve never had quite that kind of conversation with your own kids.
I’m a “good” person, by most metrics one could think of: I come from a loving home raised by a mom who worked in a school district and a dad who delivers sermons on Sundays. I don’t do drugs and never have. Not even pot. I rarely drink and have never been drunk. I’m educated. I have a professional career (one that actually requires I interact with law enforcement officers from of all sorts of agencies, from local LEOs to federal agents, on a regular basis actually).
But I’m also a POC. You can be damned sure my tension levels go WAY up when I’m around cops.
So please, instead of being offended that POC rightfully fear something you’ve probably never had to experience, why don’t you use that effort to help police departments or police officers in your own life to bring about real change in the law enforcement community? Why don’t you help dismantle the racism that has POC fearing police in the first place instead of being offended when a POC openly talks about that racism’s existence?
